| The Shins – Simple Song Lyrics | 11 years ago |

I do think he was still reeling from his friends being dropped by the band when he wrote this song but I honestly can't find a trace of it in the lyrics. This is a love song about his wife, pure and simple. "Well this is just a simple song to say what ya done I told you about all those fears, and away they did run You sure must be strong, and you feel like an ocean being warmed by the sun" Right off the bat, he dedicates it to his wife. I don't think he's talking about any fears in particular but rather all those he's confessed to his wife over the years and how she helped him get over them. He admires her and enjoys the feeling he gets by being around her. "I know that things can really get rough when you go in alone Don't go thinking you gotta be tough to bleed like a stone Could be there's nothing else in our lives so critical as this little home" His wife is an independent woman and tries to take a lot on by herself but he wants to be there for her. He wants her to ask for help when she needs it and to not be so tough all the time. Then he reminds her that the matters which trouble her the most are trivial. Building their little family is the one thing that truly deserves their attention. "When I was just nine years old, I swear that I dreamt Your face on a football field and a kiss that I kept under my breast Apart from everything, but the heart in my chest" Not sure if they knew each other as children or he's just implying that he's been dreaming about her his whole life. Right after high school football games, family and friends shuffle onto the field to greet the players and coaches. He probably saw her after a game and they kissed. Since then, he's been in love. "My life in an upturned boat, marooned on a cliff You brought me a great big flood and you gave me a lift Girl, what a gift when you tell me with your tongue And your breath goes in my lungs and we float over the rift" His life was a mess before his wife came along and she saved him. The gift he's talking about is when she kisses him. She uses her tongue, breathes into his mouth, and together, they get lost in their passion. "Remember walking a mile to your house aglow in the dark I made a fumbling play for your heart and the act struck the spark You wore a charm on the chain that I stole especial for you" He's recalling a favorite memory with her; a night where they were walking back to her house. They were "aglow;" either drunk on alcohol or just drunk on love. He made a move and, despite him being nervous, she reacted well and it kick started their relationship. He took a necklace from her that night to cherish. "Love's such a delicate thing that we do with nothing to prove Which I never knew" Love comes naturally for them. It's delicate in the fact it can't be faked or augmented by their own will. It's not inspired by a desire to prove something to one another. It just is. |

| Fall Out Boy – A Little Less Sixteen Candles, a Little More "Touch Me" Lyrics | 12 years ago |

To me, this song is about a guy trying to fix things with a girl who wants nothing to do with him anymore. All he has left to say to her these days is "I'm sorry" because she rejected him and they have nothing to talk about anymore. He knows she's "dressed up" every night, going out and just enjoying her life without him. He'll never live it down because he messed up something so beautiful over something so meaningless. He probably has a good relationship with her parents still so he's on their metaphorical "porch." He dreams about her a lot and the words that cut him the deepest - "Why don't you just drop dead?!" She was the girl every guy wanted and he could have had. But he took advantage of her affection and pushed his luck too many times. He acknowledges that it's OK to be the way she is but also admits the fact that he can't stand it sometimes. Maybe she's young, so she's immature. That's normal and nothing she should be scorned for. But when she acted self-absorbed, oblivious, and ditsy, it had a negative impact on their relationship, which upset him. He could never handle it well when that happened. He expresses that he's always late with his emotions and apologies so now he sets his clocks early. He should have kissed her when the time was right. He had so many chances but never used them. He says he's no good and that she should have known better. He says if she's smart, she'll ignore him from now on even though all he wants is to be with her. She's good at making him the bad guy and putting everything wrong he's done in the spotlight. She makes a convincing argument as to why they should go their own separate ways. She's told him before "I'll always keep you honest" (maybe in a jokingly, flirtatious manner when he tried telling her once about his past mistakes with other girls). "But I won't call you on it" clearly conveys that she could NOT keep him honest and he was deceitful anyway. I think I can understand the true meaning of this song because I've been in this exact same situation. I'm still in it, actually. Except I gave her one last apology and finally cut it off with her after not being friends for three months. I never made a move because she had a boyfriend and I never wanted to betray her trust. But that didn't stop her from wanting to come over to my house and watch movies with me, cuddled up together on my couch. I should have kissed her when I had the chance because she ended up breaking up with her boyfriend just after we had our worst (and last) argument. In fact, I think the meaning of the song title "A Little Less Sixteen Candles, a Little More 'Touch Me'" literally means "Let's stop watching Sixteen Candles and make out instead" |

Dude, sorry but that means nothing. I bought Fall Out Boy's "From Under the Cork Tree" when it came out in '05 and its fold-out had a lot of incorrect lyrics. Such as "A loaded God complex, cock it and pull it" in Sugar We're Going Down rather than what was obviously the correct lyrics: "A loaded gun complex, cock it and pull it." Not like the band members themselves wrote the little books, you know? "Sacrifice the liver" makes no sense in any context imaginable. "Sacrifice and delivereth" is a reference to Psalm 18:48 and correlates with Bukowski's criticism of Christianity. |

That's the way I look at it now reading your comment. It makes total sense because I can relate to it so much. People I want to be with barely ever get to know the real me and that person they think I am is someone entirely different. They may even like that guy more than my true self. That's what I think the second verse reflects. I've been wanting to talk to a girl for awhile now and was afraid this would be a problem. Got on the gee-tar real fast and started writing down tabs just in case. Luckily, we're getting along fine, right on the level I want to be. |

Wow, can you not just copy & paste half-assed lyrics from every other site? Here are the ACTUAL lyrics: Yeah I am a man, man man man Up up in the air And I run around round round, round this town town And act like I don't care So when you see me flyin' by the planet's moon You don't need to explain if everything's changed Just know I'm just like you Huh, ha (x4) (ahhhh-ahhh-ahh) So I pull this switch The switch, the switch inside my head And I see black black, green and brown brown brown brown, And blue yellow violet's red And suddenly a light appears inside my brain And I think of my ways, I think of my days And know that I have changed It's the colours you have No need to be sad It really ain't that bad It's the colours you have No need to be sad You still got your health So mistress, mistress Have you been up to the roof? He shot himself self, there's blood on the wall 'Cause he couldn't face the truth Oh knock that down, leave the ground and find some space And tell your friends friends, you'll be back again gain Before it's too late It's the colours you have No need to be sad It really ain't that bad (woaaaah) It's the colours you have No need to be sad It really ain't that bad It's the colours you have No need to be sad You still got your health So I am a man, man man man Up up in the air And I float around round round, round this town town And know I shouldn't care So when you see us there, there out in the open road You don't need to explain if everything's changed Just know that you don't know We call it... life Oh yeah that's what we call it We can't call it hell Yeah we call it... life Ho yeah that's what we call it When you can't call it hell-ohhh Yeah we call it... love That's right we call it... love We do it for love Sweet love |

| The Cranberries – Zombie Lyrics | 14 years ago |

"Zombie" is about the ethno-political conflict in Ireland. This is obvious if you know anything of the singer (Dolores O'Riordan)'s Irish heritage and understood the "1916" Easter Rising reference. "Another head hangs lowly Child is slowly taken And the violence caused such silence Who are we mistaken - Another mother's breaking Heart is taking over" Laments the Warrington bomb attacks in which two children were fatally injured on March 23rd, 1993. Twelve year old Tim Parry was taken off life support with permission from his mother after five days in the hospital, virtually braindead. "But you see it's not me It's not my family" References how people who are not directly involved with the violence feel about it. They are "zombies" without sympathy who refuse to take action while others suffer. |

I can relate to this whole song but this particular lyric really gets me: "To the one I now know most I will tell them of your ghost Like a thing that never, ever was" It's hard to explain someone who has passed to someone who never knew that person themselves. It sounds like they're just 'a thing' rather than someone you loved because words can't do them justice. |

| Woodkid – Iron Lyrics | 14 years ago |

It has to do with battle, that's for sure. Here is my analysis: "Deep in the ocean, dead and cast away Where innocence is burned in flames" - This is a metaphor that describes a bleak place where one matures abruptly. "A million miles from home, I'm walking ahead I'm frozen to the bones, I am..." - Meant to be taken literally. The person might well be overseas in a cold place. "A soldier on my own, I don't know the way I'm riding up the heights of shame" - Either a metaphor for someone who regrets blindly following a path set by another or it's meant to be taken literally. Soldiers often struggle with orders and moral decisions. "I'm waiting for the call, the hand on the chest" - Seems to be a reference to the American pledge. Could also be a metaphor for devotion to a cause. "I'm ready for the fight, and fate" - They are anticipating death at this point. "The sound of iron shocks is stuck in my head" - Probably talking about shell fire. Maybe even weapons clashing against armor? "The thunder of the drums dictates" - Likely war drums beating a marhing tune. "The rhythm of the falls, the number of dead's" - Obviously people are dying around them. "The rising of the horns, ahead" - The enemy is sounding horns in the distance. Could be anything from a bugle to an age old blower. "From the dawn of time to the end of days I will have to run, away I want to feel the pain and the bitter taste Of the blood on my lips, again" - This is a metaphor to describe that wherever they go, they cannot escape their past. They will always yearn for battle no matter what. "I can't remind your eyes, your face" - The person has been gone for so long that they do not remember how their loved ones look anymore. |
