i get where everyone's coming from with how the song's about feeling restless/wanting to get out and leave the midwest etc but i think it's a bit off. these two people are in a relationship but in a bit of a rut "long quiet lonely night at your side", "not a lot i could say to change your mind" and he's saying they should just get away together to get out of this "rut". i don't know if i'm right but i heard the song today after a long time and it's a position i'm currently in so the getting away together and driving out a thousand miles per hour has some appeal :) |

you forgot to add the "better than playing dumb" at the end :) this song is beautiful. i never paid attention to the lyrics until now because i feel the exact same. this one and aurora really speaking to me right now. completely agree on the interpretation about how it's just dave being in a space where he wants to leave, do his own thing, no expectations, no fakeness, all of that. not about kurt. i LOVE the second verse, especially the "good at escaping better at flaking out" line i'm curious about how/why it progresses from "call and i'll answer" to "calling unanswered"? any thoughts? |
