| Brand New – Jude Law and a Semester Abroad Lyrics | 14 years ago |

I have scrolled through a few pages of comments and, while not completely inaccurate, I think the true meaning of the song is held withing the singers sarcasm. Obviously he is upset over a girl who has broken up with him and moved to England and the fact that he knows her intentions of hooking up with the "Jude Law" types in said country. But again, I think this isn't the main point of the song. What the singer is truly upset about is the terrible way she treated him throughout their relationship. Moreover, when he sarcastically wishes for his ex to "Tell all the English boys [she] meets / about the American boy back in the states / The American boy [she] used to date / who would do anything [she] says", he's not trying to say that he is better or worse than any of her potential boyfriends, he's upset that the effort and devotion he had dedicated to this relationship is going to be criticized by his ex-girlfriend. Probably stating that he "tried too hard" or "was a pussy" or something of that nature. These kind of relationships are extremely damaging to a guy's self-esteem and indeed their image of women. I've been through something similar and it has not been easy getting back to where I once was. With this, I can really relate to this song and I'm glad I found it. |
