| Bob Seger – Hollywood Nights Lyrics | 14 years ago |

In my opinion the song is not about a girl or relationship but the emotion and change that a place can produce. Initially the girl is a metaphor for the California cost (she stood there bright as the sun - is the sand; she looked at him with those soft eyes so innocent and blue - is the sea); later on metaphor for Hollywood at night seen above from the hills (and those Hollywood nights in those Hollywood hills she was looking so right in her diamonds and frills - the diamonds are the Hollywood lights at night seen from the hills). The girl as metaphor is used to produce the dazzle and emotions, the young man was experiencing, in the listener. At a certain point the girl disappears; for me this represents the moment at which after being familiar with the place and having the dazzle disappeared he notices he had lost the emotional ties with his hold environment; he feels alone. What remains after this experience is the emotion that the interior reverberation of the memory of the initial dazzlement produces in him. |
