i believe that this song is talking about two people - i think to say that it's *just* the pedophile he's talking about isnt right - i think it's about the grown son (the light) and the abuser (the lampshade). that the abused is who he's trying to rescue, remove the lampshade, bring the light back. the boy had a dog, and the dog analogy comes back at the end. |

I think a few of the aforementioned comments are definitely correct. Anyone who has been broken up with by someone who still loves them might sympathize with this song. "you said I came close as anyone's come to live underwater" The girl in the song may have broken up with the narrator while the relationship was still good, while they were still in love - from fear, from that self-imposed exile referenced in the beginning. That the narrator has gotten as close to the person as they've ever let anyone before, but they have a fear of who they are, and what they've done in the past, and are trying to keep that from happening to this relationship. - someone's slideshow wouldn't do it - if the girl thinks she knows what will happen to the relationship and is ending it before it happens. |
