| I believe the song is about a woman falling in love with the image of a man and not the man himself. When she finally sees that who she's fallen in love with doesn't even really exist, she's completely devastated. She can't do anything about trying to get the relationship to work because who she fell in love with was her own image of what she wanted projected onto a man. She loved what she made him out to be, not who he really was. | |

What I get from this is that it's about a guy and a girl that ended up breaking up. The guy doesn't really care much at all, doesn't feel that way about her anymore, and/or has just moved on with his life. The girl hasn't, and is still unbelievably hurt and heartbroken. The guy seems to have some problems, but they may not specifically tie into the girl. They're just problems. So he thinks, "well, maybe if I be with her because she needs me so much, maybe it'll somehow help my problems too. Plus, I don't like seeing her suffer, whether I still have feelings for her or not." So he basically just gets back together with her because he either pities her, or he wants to be there just to comfort her like she wants him to. Or could be both. So he just kind of throws away anything he may be pursuing to make her happy. He sacrificed his own life, wants, and happiness to make her happy. At least that's what I get from it. I think it could be interpreted several different ways, possibly. |
