I think this song is about her running from a relationship that she should trust but her past is holding her back. "i'm not scared of you now or so i say there's no reason to run although i may" she says she's not scared but she is and she knows there isn't a reason to try to get away from this but she knows her instinct will be to try anyway. "i could try to forget what you do when i let you get through to me but then you do it over again i could rage like a fire and you'd bring rain i desire til you get to me on my morningside" she tries to forget how good it feels when he finally gets through her defenses but she can't because he does it repeatedly. he gives her everything she needs but i think her morningside is her bad side. like in the heat of the moment everything is great but the morning after is when you think of the consequences of your actions and panic and run. i think her morningside refers to when she flees all over again. "keep my distance i tried no use but no matter the miles i'm back to you" she tries to keep away from him emotionally but it's no use because however far she manages to push away from him he winds up getting through to her again and she's right back where she started. "look back don't you dare let me start to do that i don't care if the things that i have only make me afraid to lose i need to let go" she needs to let go of her past. he can't let her look back on past relationships because that is what makes her panic because she has been hurt so many times before and she knows that she needs to let it go and open herself up to this new guy but she struggles with it. |
