10cc – I'm Mandy, Fly Me Lyrics 14 years ago
This is a song of pure imagination. He sees the girl in the poster and goes on an impossible adventure with her before he returns to reality... but then he concludes, "If it hadn't have been for Mandy... I wouldn't be here at all." It completely blurs the lines between fantasy and reality.

Lights – Second Go Lyrics 14 years ago
I think that the clock hands going round represents a cycle, that the same things happen over and over again. While the hands on the clock go round her hands hit the ground so we know her falling is a cycle as well. I don't think the coffins and crowns are related but they stand for bereavement and success. So she's asking how many more times she'll mourn before she sees a happy ending like a princess in a fairytale. The alarm represents a change for the better like when you wake up - it's a break in the cycle of bad things.

When she asks "How can you love me when I am ugly?" it's a metaphorical and a literal question. "Guess I can only hope". There's a helplessness in her situation. She doesn't feel empowered to make a change. She's looking for the outside force of an alarm to wake her up, she's looking to the outside force of another person's love to make her better. She doesn't feel good about herself emotionally and that is reflected in a negative perception of herself.

I think the chorus is pretty easy to understand, although the "Second" Go comes back to the image of the clock, time and repetition. She doesn't want to repeat all the mistakes of the past but she does want to return to the love she had before and do it all over again.

"No matter the weather there's never a break"
"Conquer a ladder then slip on a snake"

These lines are saying similar things. The weather is something that, like life, is constant but constantly changing. Sometimes you have sun, sometimes you have rain, sometimes you have ups and sometimes you have downs. The imagery of the game of Snakes and Ladders alludes to a childish innocence and naivete. Perhaps a golden time in the past that is now lost. And a hope beyond all reason that things, no matter how bad they seem can turn out for the better... like when Sleeping Beauty is awoken with a kiss.

So although the song is one of sadness, loss and regret there's a deep sense of hope as well.
