I figured this song to be about confused sexual identity. He is having dreams about his male boss getting uncomfortably close and perhaps making a sexual advance towards him "lay his head on my shoulder and say son I've been hearing good things." Is this the kind of dream he wants? I mean, wasn't he "praying on his pillow" for this just before he accidentaly falls asleep? Ugh. No. Gotta wake up now and take a long "45 minute shower" He wants to get his strange dream out of his mind. Reassuring himself in the mirror. "baby we'll be fine". He is assuring his confidence in his sexuality, but admits later he was "pretending". His girlfriend doesn't know, which means he is lying to her. Hence he feels bad. "I'm so sorry for everything". But after a few jack and cokes, his confidence level is bloated a bit. When the mood is ruined by the spilling of alcohol, he gets a wave of emotions which remind him once again of his confusion, making him feel bad for himself and his girlfriend, and once again repeats his apology over and over again. |
