Yep. It seems the vast majority of people think this song is praising the pursuit of happiness at all costs, from drunk driving, to not listening to people, to missing bullets (probably figurative). The song goes on to talk about how not everything shiny is actually gold -- not something actually worth having. But even knowing that it's not worth having, Kid Cudi says that he'll be "fine" and "good" once he gets it. This is a bad habit or addiction -- you know it's not good, but you keep thinking that you'll be better if you just get the next score. The song title even gives this away - Pursuit of Happiness (Nightmare). If there is a message, to me, it is to think more about whether what you want is something will bring you contentment/ meaning / fulfillment / happiness. |
