Japandroids – I Quit Girls Lyrics 13 years ago
It's obviously about high school... possibly about being with a cheerleader (I'm not sure about it though). The fact she's wearing any clothing six days a week shows that she's probbably in high school. The white may refer to the cheerleading unfirom and so is "she was just one of those girls". Also i think the limited lyrics are to show that it's really shallow, the relationship they have. She's probbably just an amazing girl in his class, and when you're actually still in class you may this that girl the top beauty you forget there's this whole world after high school, but you still think that after her you won't need to be with any other girl...

St. Vincent – Cheerleader Lyrics 14 years ago
I think the false interpretations are mainlly caused by the misleading chorus-lyrics-describing. She does'nt refer her cheerleading to someone specific (or a specific group/country). In the chorus she simply stated that she doesnt want to be A cheerleader anymore. I'm usually not the best lyrics-describer so there's a fair chance I'm hearing it all wrong, but I'm quite sure about this one. (All the thing I've said in here are refering to the chorus only, she clearly refers to such things in other parts of the song)

I have a weak-piont for comments such as the comments of sumeragi_slut: i dont like this sanctimonious thinking that is like: the-music-i-hear-is-far-more-complex-and-deep-than-regular-pop-music, But in this case im with him. but i think the lyrics does go in two levels: gender and politics.

I think the use of cheerleader as a metaphor really helped me to understand the lyrics (If im righ, and im probabbly not): A cheerleader- in the most pop-culture-ish way: A manipulative-power forced by a young attractive girl who plays dumb just to be underrestimate by people who need to feel the position of power (But they are actually not), Thats a nice way to show that girl's manipulative power. she enjoys the company of all the wrong people: stupid boys (preferablly those who plays for the local sports team) and shallow girls (other cheerleaders).
I agree that "telling whole lies with a half smile" is another sign for her manipulations over people and "throwing rocks and then hide your arms" is yet, another sign for that. as far as the pop-culture goes- "seeing people naked but staying with your clothes on" in my opinion is a way to express how she is sexually manipulative as i said the young attractive girl: she'll lure you but do nothing in the end. This line also combines with the line from the second verse about "naked america". that's where the political level is exposed

This cheerleader have held bare bons but stayed in her clothes for many times, but when she suddenlly saw America bare-boned something changed: She did'nt want to be a cheerleader anymore, she saw the truth and she realized she had been a victim of a manipulation herself and she doesnt want to be a cheerleader no more for two resons: First, she does'nt want to encourage america anymore and cheerleading in sports (Football, which is an american sport almost exclusively and uses cheerleaders in the most obnoxious way. As a non-american O can relate to this since whenever i hear the word cheerleader I immeadiately think about football beacause its is so identified with american pop-culture). The second reason is, she felt so bad when she realized she had been manipulated. She feels she does'nt want to hurt anyone in this way again. She does'nt want to feed anyone dirt like she was fed. Realizing she was a puppet of pop-culture with false values.

+ In the chorus she reallu emphasize herself (reapting I for 4 times twice). I'm not sure what that means but it probablly have a meaning.

Hope I did'nt embarrassed myself too much.
