| Blur – Tame Lyrics | 14 years ago |

Clear skies this morning Airplane passes At a slight angle Second one follows Regional weather Continues to baffle her But she's not stupid She's just friendly I don't know what to do Today is up to you Can I pass through you? Tame, tame, tame, tame A blossom background and Coffee mornings The show bonanzas and What to buy there Circus of horrors in Orwell cities You fall to pieces I must be dreaming I don't know what to do Today is up to you Can I pass through you? And I don't know what to do My absence is due Can I pass, can I? |

I hear it as: To be a motion actor, Two broken strings attract her An invitation, life in gloom Hesitate to throw a coin in, A wish could be a bad thing, My mouth is just a mesh of drool And standing on the bridge I Wink at you from up high, I talk, a fish comes as she moves I want to be like water And never need a doctor And carve the earth without my tools (Do it all) All of the things that I relate to well Like authors and painters Transparent paper wings That float above me while I sleep To make the room more natural So we could die in it and die in it, die The color after sunset You'd do anything to jinx it, It'll crush your skull just like a willow He doesn't need a house His shoes will walk for miles There's a gypsy's face marked on my pillow I want to be like water And slip into your throat And make you feel alive and new I want to be like water And never have a doubt and Reflect what is around my pool (Do it all) All of the things that I relate to well Like authors and painters Transparent paper wings That float above me while I sleep To make the room more natural Till we could die in it and die in it, die And all the dreams that I awake to read like ghosts awaitin' (s) And all the things I hate, I wish I didn't have to hate And find a room most natural To live on by in it, by in it, by I don't think you know just what you're doing You pretend to know exactly all the things you keep on moving Said I don't think I know exactly what I'm doing But I tend to know exactly all the things you keep on moving When you wake up from your snoozin Gonna tell you how to do it my way Gonna tell you what I'm doin Lazy night I play my drum Anybody try to rob it And I'll find a way to stop it And it's all about the days you spend Well I'll be at our home |

| They Might Be Giants – Sleepwalkers Lyrics | 14 years ago |

I reckon it's a subtle criticism of US politics in the Bush Jr era, specifically post-9/11. The sleepwalkers are the ones who are just going along with the rapid changes and dereliction of rights, while those who are angry at the changes are the ones being ironically warned not to "cry out loud" or "stamp your feet". A couple of things support this (in my view): - He sings "Let the people go by", which reminds me strongly of the line "Let the people crawl inside" in their much older, political song 'We Want a Rock'. - The sleepwalkers are found "all across the country"... - "Perhaps when they awake they'll remember everything / They'll think it was a dream, it'll be forgotten then" is a criticism of the way people are quick to forget past transgressions when it's their political party involved. |
