| Don't listen to them. They're possibly Illuminati anyway. Meaning can be found in so many places. Being addicted to something meaningless is destructive, so I'd say stay away. | |

| Yes, I thought it was quite apparent. Plus, Andrew has masonic symbolism all over him in tattoo form; just saw a pic of him holding a big eye necklace. | |

| Um... freemasonry and Illuminati - google handshake freemasonry ... Andrew has a lot of masonic symbolism all over him (tattoo covering his chest, big eyeball necklace). Many people who get big in the music industry have to go through masonic rituals or they can kiss the fame goodbye... this is why some talentless people end up famous, though there are exceptions if MGMT actually did do the famous masonic handshake... | |

Yes. He could have been addressing it to his girlfriend who he "sank into Eden" with (euphemism for sex; the garden of delight) then feeling guilt and one of them having to be "alone in the church" after that. His declaration of "I ALONE TEMPT YOU" removes "the devil" from the equation, as the Devil is the tempter to sin. Without a faith in the Biblical God/Christ, he likely believes that the devil is used as a mythological scapegoat by religious. He's saying that it's HIM that's tempting the person he "sank into Eden" with. The rest of the lyrics just fall into place. Maybe the baby he talks about is a baby that the person he had sex with conceived. "Only love can save us now" - no longer is religion an aspect of their relationship, and likely it was a strong belief of at least one of them, potentially of his partner. "Fear is not the end of this" is what he also tells her. He believes that she clung onto religion either because of fear or that the religion was making her fear sinking into Eden with him, i.e. sinning. He tells her that the greatest of teachers (note he doesn't call Jesus the Messiah or God as Christians would) will leave her "chained to fate" and trapped out at sea. "all these riddles that you burn all come runnin' back to you, all these rhythms that you hide" Not positive on this bit, but it's possibly that he himself at times speaks in hinting terms to her about the problems he has with his faith and she rejects them. And all the rhythms that you hide, maybe she covers up the "rhythm" that they make together (sex euphemism?) out of shame Ultimately, he feels at this point that the relationship is in a desperate state but still clings on and hopes that "love" can hold them together instead of driving her away from him and his clashing views. I've always liked this song but never gave the lyrics that much thought -- on the surface it just seems like a very jealous guy, lol. |

The view on church being for the weak is such an overdone stereotype; it takes courage to be a real Christian, ever since they were fed to the lions. Anyway. Interesting. I'm a devout Catholic, but I've always been fascinated with Live. Unsurprisingly, I don't agree with his lyrics here, but I have an additional insight that may be helpful. The more I read these opinions then thought about the song more, something clicked... | And I'm not sure which church you went to, but mine certainly doesn't teach fear. It actually teaches that fear is the worst evil. | |
