| I feel like this first song sets up the themes of But Here We Are, namely life/death and Illusions of both along with their trappings and joy and pain. You can have everything or have list everything but we're all part of it, we all dance and we're all trapped here from the Royalty to the rest of us. It's such a great thing Dave Grohl always does with his lyrics and compositions in that it could and usually to the many music fans does mean several things at once. And this opener sets the tones of the very emotional very amazing album from the Get. Dave may be trapped or joyous or both but usually something happens big that stops it all, stops us in our tracks. Noone can escape it and we all are wiser and perhaps can make some sense or even just a little peace of mind when tragedy or change strikes us all. I Don't really know what Senor Grohl s intentions are with this but I believe he's a Mastercat stating the problem or concern and the making his way which ideally is inspiring to us all to Carry on our Wayward pursuits in the face of it all, in the Valley of the Shadows. Foo Fighters have played on these themes since the Beginning (Something From Nothing, I Am A River, Saint Cecicilia, Times Like These, Learn To Fly, Walk, The Pretender, End Over End, Best Of You, I'll Stick Around, February Stars, and on and always come out on Top just about all the Time. Great soundin' tune to close the record. I'll take a bit of a different tack on this one, as Dave has said that he likes to right universal songs. It's about a new human life that's been reincarnated. Learnin' to walk and talk again. I especially dig the parts about down prayin' I never wanna die, another state of mind- It seems kinda like a realization of everything in cosmos is locked in me- but I'm startin' again. Good or bad- I dunno- just seems like a desire to not have to wait too long to never have to die again, you know. I know, kinda a stretch. And don't ask me bout paper mountains- all I can think about is some Hindu cremation- don't they burn paper boats, or isn't the body wrapped in white atop a woodpile? Cheers:> |
