The song is about emotional/physical abuse in a conflicting relationship and the futile thought that it will eventually "fade". It's interesting, considering how much the later songs seems to fawn over the idea or memory of such a similar paramour (eg. think Deadman/Change- "I'd trade it all for several pieces of your anger" There are a few others but I cbf) The impact and everlasting impression this person has made making even the worst of times a welcoming thought.
