Elle King – Ex's & Oh's Lyrics 10 years ago
So she's had a lot of boyfriends and now they're exes, so they haunt her. Oh oh oh. She doesn't seem too troubled by the haunting, kind of proud of all the exes she has actually, except in the way she sings that line, which kind of haunts me like a good little ear worm.

At first, I only heard the lyrics and thought it was X's and O's she was referring to, like it was a sign-off in a text, xoxoxoxox, hugs and kisses, (do people ever use that any more?), like those could really haunt you, but maybe she just wanted that in there for a pun/allusion.

Throwing Muses – Rabbit's Dying Lyrics 13 years ago
There used to be a pregnancy test where they injected a woman's urine into a rabbit's ovaries which were examined a few days later. Actually mice were used and whatever animal was used died whether the woman was preggers or not, but the phrase "the rabbit died" came to mean she's pregnant.

It took me a few years to realize it, but since this song puts the phrase in the present tense it means she's getting pregnant, which means she's having sex. So here the metaphorical rabbit is going through the experience of having sex. Follow me home-- you bet I'll follow her home; legs giving out; running blind--reckless; can't feel the rain--not paying attention to anything else; don't spare the brain--giving it your all until you're senseless or just being stupid not using birth control.

Some of the phrases I don't get but I figure it's just Kristen Hirsch getting really deep into the metaphor and/or adding her personal experiences/demons.
