As with many of his lyrics, Robert draws heavily on his own relationships with his daughters; this song is about a father's life-long relationship with his daughter. At first, he is keeping her safe from the perils of growing up, but he begins to gradually let her walk on her own. Eventually, he lets almost completely go of her when she gets married, but reminds her that he is still her father and will always be around to offer guidance, advice and protection if she needs them. |
