| this song is great. miranda lambert is awesome, period, as a singer, songwriter, and a woman. but anyway, i'm starting to question the meaning. when i first heard it, i thought it was from the perspective of her being the one cheated on by this guy rather than her being the other woman, but now that i really look at the lyrics and read others' interpretation, it makes more since the other way. i'm just curious as to what the inspiration for this song was. definitely gotta google that one! :) | |

| i think this song is about love and how it always turns out wrong, no matter how hard you try, and how people tend to play with each other's feelings. pretty similar idea to the one in "rolling in the deep" but i think this is a really good song too. | |

| i used to not like john mayer (mainly because of his playboy reputation) until i heard this song, but it is awesome. the meaning is really redundant to discuss because the song pretty much plays it out. i think anyone can relate to the feeling of love only being a game, or even a war, like the song talks about. | |

i hate that there aren't more comments on this song, because it is SO amazing, but i think the commenter before me is pretty much right. the only thing i'm not sure of is that the leaving wasn't by choice. i think when he talks about when he left, i think it's because he was scared of the love turning into what it was, and just ran, and then by being "late" on his return, i think it's because he had been gone so long that she had moved on. the great thing about this song, is that it's happened to us all, whether we were the one running from someone or someone ran from us. it's very relatable, but not cliche and overdone like so many songs are about this kind of thing. i loveee howie day! :) |

i had to do my first comment on the song that inspired my username... LOVE IT! i <3 mayday and have for a long long long time. the lyrics are just so pure and simple and they cut right to your heart. to me, the meaning is pretty simple. it's about a relationship that has kind of seen hard times, but they're back together, and he just wants to preserve it and keep it safe from going bad again. he says "i swear this time i mean it" because, finally, he really means that he loves her and wants things to stay good like they are right in that moment. awesome, AWESOME song. favorite part: "you could crush me, please don't crush me, cause baby i'm a dreamer, for sure. and i won't let you down. i swear this time i mean it." <3 |
