Phantogram – Mouthful of Diamonds Lyrics 14 years ago
I agree with xtina325. I don't believe it is about an abusive relationship. I think the mouthful of diamond is like the person is she speaking about says all these great things and tells her everything is wants to hear...makes their words beautiful like diamonds, but they really keep all their real secrets tucked away in a pocket and will never reveal their true self to anyone. The person doesn't show her with actions just does a lot of soda pop talking. Sweetening things up. Also I can see it being about a drug addict/dealer somewhat, but I always thought she was speaking metaphorically of "you're getting high on your own supply" you are talking yourself up in your own head, you think you are so amazing...probably more amazing than you actually are in reality. Such as when a person on drugs thinks they are perfectly fine and don't have an issues with drugs...but in reality they are just getting high on their own thought about themselves, building themselves up to something that is not reality. Just my opinion. I love reading everyone else comments. Does anyone else have an opinion on "When I'm Small"? I absolutely love that song!

Phantogram – When I'm Small Lyrics 14 years ago
Oh...possibly the meaning of she got a mouth to feed is that she is doing what she has to do to survive this hell that she is in and the song title when I'm small...is like she feels meaningless to this person. Just an idea.

llamaperson those are the correct lyrics. If you watch her sing it acoustic version you can easily tell what they lyrics are.

I think everyone has their own interpretation of a song, this is mine:
It is about raw intense pain that someone has given you. She feels as if she is dead or dying from it. She is asking show me love, show enough. I need to feel something, because she feels like she is dying or that she is dead and "underground". Also going along with the underground...the pain that she feels is almost unbearable, she asks take me underground, take me all the way, bring me to the fire, throw me in the flames...In other words if this is the way She has to feel just kill her, because then she wouldn't have to feel this desperation. You can tell the intensity and desperation in her voice when she says "I'd rather die, I'd rather die, Than to be with you. This person has really broken her down and hurt her.

I am thinking that you've got your hand on the button now, is like knowing what buttons to push to get someone to do what you want or to get under their skin. As far as the having a mouth to feed...I am not sure about this part...but I am hoping some other people have an opinion on this song.

Phantogram said most of their songs came from dreams they had, partly. I did a little research. Absolutely love this song! My favorite on the album.
