Nine Inch Nails – Sin Lyrics 13 years ago
The theme of the whole " Pretty Hate Machine" is control and greed . The essential ingredient to all self destructive paths . In the the song "Sin" its the control of what happens to a rape victim , Giving the control away to the predator and then later the self hatred and inner monologue of being " Too stupid to realize "
and feeling the abuse in hidden aromas and memory . The extent of sin laid to the victim is ironically of wanting control his/her lovers . The theme plays itself out in other songs.

Joy Division – Disorder Lyrics 13 years ago
I'm fixated on this song's imagery more than it's inner workings . It seems that as we travel to certain places are mood changes ,how if you grow up from an upper working class town to a poverty sticken wasteland , you begin to sink into utter despair . I think what this song convey's is that very idea of wanting somebody to help them in need of a greater life , but modern culture is changing so fast , things are becoming grim and incoherent in the narrtive to this song , he's lost the feeling but clings to vague hope as guidance , but in the end all he has is feeling , and modern culture has managed to have squashed all of that away .

Joy Division – Insight Lyrics 13 years ago
Since all of Ian curtis's lyrics are open to interpretation i'd say everyone's opinion on this song is right . Like all good art it's subjective and defy's singular meaning. So let me put my interpretation on it ...This song I feel is about That old cliche " How youth is wasted on the young" ...When you become of age , that meaning takes on new form , in the case of this song it's a tragic one . When we were young we refelcted on dreams , no limitations , the world is at your fingertips and anything is possible , but the habits become numbing when youv'e wasted every second on earth thinking about this . Now into old age and the old promise's are gone you only have time and waste left by your youth , all there is now is waiting and death , how you spend your time in between no longer matters youv'e given up on your dreams and became insightful and your demise are more welcoming than rising up to become something better . This song could have been about the navel gazing culture of the late 60's its spirit finally failed in the late 70's with the death of punk ...Maybe Ian had forseen some sort of collapse of reason somewhere .

Nirvana – School Lyrics 14 years ago
For kurt school never really ended , in fact right after he dropped out , he became a janitor at his high school and saw all his classmates where still there . He felt depressed and ashamed by this experince , and when it came for kurt to become part of the grudge scene , it still was school to him , he had to make his music sound like everyone else's . Hence why kurt eventually hated the bleach record in retrospect . School is a place to learn and to socially fit in , kurt new how to learn and play by the rules but hated every second of it , thats what this song defines to me .

Nirvana – Negative Creep Lyrics 14 years ago
Kurt in general was a pessemestic person that did alot of drugs , and was a true misanthropic writer.
This song has kurt using himself as bait to his own self loathing . He's also using "daddys little girl aint a girl no more " as pure irony , kurts the grown up girl ,the negative creep , and he is stoned alot . This song seems to foreshadow kurts eventual fate it seems to me , its one of their most disturbing songs .

Nirvana – Stay Away Lyrics 14 years ago
Amazing song with a pretty straight foward message STAY AWAY ! The song is catchy , loud and seductive in its anger , kurts telling his listenrs that finally a generation gap has come or it appears success of underground rock will finally be the ultimate revenge aganst everything kurt hates . STAY AWAY to the homophobic jocks and rednecks ,STAY AWAY to trendy hipsters and in crowds , STAY AWAY from me in general and of course kurts favourite gay pride phrase GOD IS GAY !

Nirvana – Come As You Are Lyrics 14 years ago
Such a beautiful song that puts anyone in a trance and for first time listenrs to the band the lyrics "and i swear that i dont have a gun " is haunting for obvious reasons . But since this was written before that tragic event ,the song doesnt imply suicide or literally a gun . It's simply about forgiving human contradictions , the banalites of humanity like trends and wanting to be like everyone else . For kurt its a message of forgiveness for all walks of life , a return from madness and despair into a zen like state where you can roam around the song like your floating on water , yes its a pun .

Nirvana – Smells Like Teen Spirit Lyrics 14 years ago
Well since everything about this song has been analysed in several ways , by now every true nirvana/kurt cobain fan knows the story behind the creation of this song . Kathleen hanna writing "kurt smells like teen spirit " on his wall . Kurt misinterpeting it as having a revolutionary meaning when in fact it simply ment kurt smells like a girls deodrant . The whole irony of this song and the bands rise to stardom seems to be like every classic rags to riches story , but left with a kind of bitter sense of humor . Since kurt's favourite band at the time was the pixies , his musical focus was to achieve their level of dynamics , which the band loved but later regreted doing, feeling like they completely ripped off the pixies . Listen to the pixies song "debaser" and youll notice the rhythm guitar section in it sounds like a faster version of the main teen spirit riff. Now to the songs meaning , the band wanted to captailize on anti fashion perspectives , looking good , looking happy , everything 80s hair metal was about and the rest of the band hated that imagine . Kurt writing the lyrics really fast , stumbles on words and phrases that seem like clumsy inside jokes , but in truth hold meaning . The meaning being " ive lived my whole life in a shithole redneck town listening to the same shit for 10 years ." It's time to write something thats mere word vomit that baby boomers will hate and metal heads will be confused by . Kurts vocals sounding both intensly angry and sincerly vunerable ( kurts personality) seemed to mock the the whole cock rock atmosphere of just being a jock rockstar aka axl rose . This song isnt my favourite nirvana songs but , like any rock standard it did its job in killing off music that was becoming stale and felt emotionless . Like the song "louie ,Louie" its become a monolithic almost heroic anthem that will always have that same powerful pulse .

Nirvana – On a Plain Lyrics 14 years ago
This song is one of my favourites because it defys the whole idea of a song having a meaning , like kurt said music first lyrics second . You can try and pick apart line by line what this song means and still come up with with maybe a handful of ideas , kurt openly says in this song he has no idea what he is saying , just follow the uplifting melody and maybe the answers simply are in your head . This song has personal implications somewhere , i scratch till i bled , still makes me think of kurts heroin use but so what , he seems so blissful in this song , his neurotic play on words is what makes this song a bubblegum pop meets heavy riff delight .

Nirvana – Serve the Servants Lyrics 14 years ago
"Teenage angst has paid off well now im bored and old". In an interview with kurt he said this statement was how he felt about the whole idea of grudge music and how much of a bore it had become . He also said that "In utereo " was less personal than his previous recorded albums , which is only half right . Kurt had become bored and old his whole life , his beliefs , ideas were being overly analysed by the media . Of course francis and courtney became a spectacle and for kurt to have to stand by and watch how everything he helped create and love was becoming everything he would eventually come to loathe . This song is about the power of success over an artist trying to break down old barriers . Inside kurts mind his parents divorce always haunted him , he brings in blunt insight into this but in a less serious way , he was coming to terms with it in this song . While other artists were still belly aching about there own personal lives and kurt was the leader of this sadly , so the barriers could never be brought down so to speak . Serve the servants oh no is very vague in context really , the servants being himself and his family serving the media and want they want , to watch him and his wifes career and marriage fall apart . Kurt couldnt help but relieve the horrors of his past in that aspect , so hes giving in to what the media wants to hear , hes became to bored to fight against it like he use too .

Nirvana – Lithium Lyrics 14 years ago
Well since this song was written before nevermind was even made , it had taken on alot of lyrical changes and kurts own personal feelings were changing in his own life . Yes kurt battled depression ; and at the time kurts heroin use was already effecting his personal and professinal life as an artist and his surrounding bandmates . Also around this time he had a short love/hate realtionship with tobi vail of bikini kill . ( shes the main lyrical source for alot of the material on nevermind) . So back to the songs meaning , well since kurt wrote from a kind of nonsensical oblique style , he admits to the conflicting contradictions that remain hidden in each song . This song deals with kurts emotional stance with god , himself , and his target of affection . Kurt use to be heavily religious but in his negative state of mind at the time decided to use a hint of pessemstic irony in claiming hes found god , whether that be heroin , tobi vail , having sex , thinking about death etc . He also uses a nihlistic approach to a love / hate realtionship , turning to madness instead of faith , giving in to demons . This song like also can be a sarcastic approach to the whole cliche of hating yourself and wanting to kill someone who has broken your heart , thats where the contradictions seem more accurate , kurt did truly feel hurt by what had happened to it , but uses his dark humor to make fun of himself and create that auroa of how the seattle sound was merely a tool people used to try to create a revolution which kurt himself thought was a load of shit . Oh , and the title lithium well that speaks for itself , being bipolar and having these ideas floating around inside your head lithium seems to fit perfectly for the songs entire loud quiet loud mood . R.I.P. Kurt Donald Cobain

Morrissey – Dial-a-cliché Lyrics 14 years ago
I find this song peculiar because the whole album viva hate was about his feelings after the smiths broke up and a return to his reflections of the past . This song imposes what i believe morrissey was viewed as even before the smiths . He was always looked at as fey and too bookish , which morrissey found and im sure many do as so cliche you cant be rid of it . This is morrissey saying to people to be rid of them be yourself whatever that might be. Dont simply dial a cliche .

Morrissey – Suedehead Lyrics 14 years ago
Though all of these viewpoints I think are spot on , ill throw mine in . Since morrissey was known as a asexual celibate I believe this song is another refrence to it . I think the mozzer desires to be obessed about but at the same time is repulsed by it sexual or not . This is his cry and plea for people to understand how he feels . The title of course is meant to be talked about with its ambigious nature of it and his lyrics of course , its a better title than calling it simply i'm so sorry . Amazing song 100 % thank you morrissey.
