Bombay Bicycle Club – Jewel Lyrics 14 years ago
The song is rather straight forward. It's either a person telling their former lover what a terrible mistake they made for leaving/destroying their relationship, or a person kind of reminiscing on their own mistakes. It, however, seems to be rather bitter, playing upon the fact that nostalgia is often fonder than what reality held. The last line holds the key to the whole meaning of the song, methinks.

The last line of the song owns the meaning. It's a nostalgic look back upon a failed relationship (either the narrator is telling himself of his regrets, or urging that his lost lover should have her own. It does certainly address the fact that in hindsight, it was rare and beautiful. Too, that we tend to overlook the bad when looking back.

To me, this song is definitely about a sex-based relationship. In any relationship where there's reciprocal sex, there will be reciprocal feelings. I think that they both mutually feel *something*, but because there is typically a different set of feelings related to sex- between men and women- they are inevitably feeling different feelings about the whole thing.
I think she's trying to be pragmatic, was probably hurt in the past. She recognizes (at least for herself) that things cannot strictly, and forever stay sexual... She probably has feelings for him that she doesn't want to feel.. she pushes it away.
"You come here to me
We'll collect those lonely parts and set them down
You come here to me"
This part is defo him saying (in my opinion)... just let go of the "lonely" parts... "this could be a good time". If she just lets her guard down, lets go. I don't believe it's him wanting a relationship..

"She feels that my sentimental side should be held with kid gloves
But she doesn't know that I left my urge in the icebox
She swears I'm just prey to the female,
Well then hook me up and throw me, baby cakes, cuz I like to get hooked."

Held with kid gloves... she feels she should avoid having feelings or engaging his feelings, but he assures her there are none (they've been left in the icebox).
