| Florence + the Machine – What the Water Gave Me Lyrics | 11 years ago |
|
Really? No one thinks of The Little Mermaid? This song could totally be about Ariel and Ursula. "'Cause she's a cruel mistress And the bargain must be made But oh, my love, don't forget me When I let the water take me" In these lines, Ariel is saying that she made a bargain with Ursula to become human, and she hopes that Prince Eric won't forget about her if she returns to the sea. This is probably the only line told from Ariel's perspective though, I think it is by-far an Ursula-central song. "And oh, poor Atlas The world's a beast of a burden You've been holding on a long time And all this longing And the ships are left to rust That's what the water gave us" Ursula could be referring to Triton when she says "Atlas", because he is 'holding up' the world of Atlantica, and he's been doing it for a long time. She may be practicing psychological warfare by implying he causes storms to sink ships (and therefore, rust them) as an act of revenge against humans for killing his wife accidentally with a ship. This makes sense, because she wants to take power, and to do that, lowering his morale would be a good way to do that. "'Cause they took your loved ones But returned them in exchange for you But would you have it any other way? Would you have it any other way? You could have it any other way" This is from a neutral perspective, and talks about how Ursula took Ariel for not fulfilling their bargain, and Triton stepped up to take her place so that his daughter would be free. |

| Lily Allen – Fuck You Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| Lily Allen has right-out said this song is about Westboro Baptist Church. Not really hard to decipher why. | |
| Heather Dale – Medusa Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| You're right, Medusa was very pretty. She also was a priestess at the Temple of Athena. Poseidon raped her to enrage Athena, and it worked. Athena punished Medusa and her sisters by turning them into Gorgons. Athena couldn't punish Poseidon, as he was both male and a God, so she took out her anger on the sisters. | |
| Bat for Lashes – Horse and I Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| I totally think that this song is about the general plot of "The Horse and His Boy" by C.S. Lewis, the fifth of seven books in the Chronicles of Narnia series. | |
| Fairground Attraction – Fairground Attraction Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
Children with candyfloss and prizes of goldfish. Young men kill tin ducks in sharp shooter poses. The laughter of the lovers on the rickety stairs. The rumble of the diesel and the sounds of the fair. An old gypsy lady, in soft Spanish whispers Took my hands in hers and told me their secrets "Your heart is a fire and his love is an ember You must forget what youll always remember." Superstitious nonsense, just a fairground attraction I walked through the neons, in search of distraction But the tears in my eyes knew the truth in my heart She'd only confirmed what I knew at the start oh-ah-ah-ah ah-ah-ah ah-ah-ah |
