Grandaddy – The Warming Sun Lyrics 14 years ago
Regret.. ("How it could have maybe been") But in denial about it ("I haven't been that bad") but knowing deep down you screwed up ("I haven't been that good"). Feeling separate and removed from other guys who seem to have it so easy ("..all the stuff I didn't get, comes so easily to him"). It see this as a sequel to "I'm on Standby" - while he's on "standby" he's looking over his previous life and it all seems like it's "in a dream" - because in a sense, he's back where he started. As someone going through a divorce, I can relate to that feeling.. being back where you started, your ex has moved on, and the last 10 years feeling like it was all some damn dream..

Grandaddy – I'm on Standby Lyrics 14 years ago
What a great little song. Grandaddy get what it's like to be someone adrift in the world. The character sees himself as separate from other people ("you humans require more words"). Maybe going on "Standby" is a metaphor for going to therapy or rehab.. "the work order you signed" is someone telling him to get help and come back when you get your act together. However, the character doesn't really get what he's doing wrong, but goes to get "fixed" anyways..

Swirlies – upstairs Lyrics 14 years ago
I love the combination of whispering/screaming during the final chorus. And I swear that to me it sounds like they're singing "drowning in sand" at times instead of "running upstairs" if you listen very close.
