Against Me! – Ache With Me Lyrics 14 years ago
Or "stop" as a matter of fact. Fucking love this song, it explains a lot the hard deal they've been dealing with.

"that doesn't exclude the possibility that AM! polished up their sound and made it a bit more accesible"

I think they did that song because they wanted to, but as you grow older, you kind of schematize the subject you always talked about. Think about it, how many time will they repeat themselves? Tom is sure getting tired of saying the same thing and - it might sound funny, but true - and not seeing the world change.

They had the choice of refreshing a bit themselves - which I'm sure they did unconsciously - or repeating themselves to the point of getting boring and unoriginaly self-ripping.

Don't forget Tom Gabel is a musician, not a politician.

He's not talking to himself or "her" (whoever "her" might be) but he's talking to us, the people who used to listen to Against Me in their youth time, people who were anarchist, people who had ideals, idealist that grew up to be cynic, who grew up ill will or resentful. People who had to deal with reason (I thought the line "Ideals turn to resentment" was "Deals turned to reason, and")

People who are now aching in the face of the absurdity of this world. These are the people to which this song is dedicated to.

A song, along with "I Was A Teenage Anarchist" and "Suffocation", that is the emblem of what Against Me! have become.

"Suffocation
Modern life in the western world"

I don't care about people hating Against Me! because they "aren't doing punk anymore" because, for me, Against Me! always was a Folk "(somewhat aggressive) modern-rock" band, not a "Folk Punk" band.

A Silver Mt. Zion – Teddy Roosevelt's Guns Lyrics 14 years ago
I was discussing the lyrics of that song today with some friend and here's what I see in it.

The band is from Montreal, which means that this song isn't just about "the Canada from a Canadian point of view" but is "about Canada from a French-Canadian point of view".

Alot in this song seems to reflect what most Quebecers think of the Canadian governement. The bureaucracy of the Governement, and the feeling of being "trapped in it" (Remember the "We're trapped in the belly of horrible machine, and the machine is bleeding to death?), which is the feeling of "not being able to change anything". Why do we have that feeling? Because, even though we accuse the "rest of the Canada" and it's "right wing affiliation" of being "Overfed and easy led", "genteel", "vain", we must come to the conclusion that we are just the same. We don't want to, but after all we are "sons of Canada".

If that make sense at all.

Tho I'll admit I say that as a French-Canadian and sincerely, this kind of speech could match with any country.
