| Eagles – Hotel California Lyrics | 2 years ago |
|
Like any song, it can mean different things to different people, even if that's completely different from what the writers had in mind when writing it. It doesn't matter. It's your experience when you listen to it and you can impose any meaning on it that works for you. For myself, the absolute best analysis and interpretation is one that identifies several different layers of meaning, some being more on the surface and others being deeper and more esoteric. I always loved the song but, after reading this interpretation, I consider it an absolute masterpiece and one of the best songs ever written. | Hawkwind – Brainstorm Lyrics | 10 years ago |
| One of the definitive Hawkwind tracks and one of the first I heard back in the 70's. For me, Hawkwind 70-79 IS Hawkwind. I kinda lost interest after that - preferred Nik Turner's more recent 'Space Ritual' stuff with the early Hawkwind members. Love the pounding drums and the electronic warbling that sets it apart from the mainstream. | |

| Racing Cars – The Shoot Horses, Don't They? Lyrics | 12 years ago |

Apparently this song was inspired by the 1969 film of the 1935 book about a depression-era dance competition. The title refers to the mercy killing of horses that have broken a leg. From the imdb reviews: "This film is not for everyone. But for those interested in the social pathology that allows human suffering to become a form of amusement, the malicious ill-treatment of the poor, or the harsh realities of the depression era, this is multifaceted cinema that can be watched again and again, each time yielding new subtleties. It is a morbidly fascinating character study that reflects a truly desperate time." But, regardless of the dance competition setting, I like to interpret it as a metaphor for life generally.. I am now inspired to seek out the film to see if it's as good as suggested. |

| The Monkees – Pleasant Valley Sunday Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| Agreed. One of my favourite Monkees songs! | |
| The Monkees – Shades Of Gray Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| Agreed. Hadn't thought of the 60's angle. For me it's always been a more general message about growing older - the simple black and white views of youth become less clear with age. There never seems to be clear cut issues - the truth is always gray. I think maybe it's both. Whatever - it's a great song. | |

I agree. It's about not wanting commitment. How I wish I'd taken this to heart when I first heard it |

| The Monkees – I'm A Believer Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| This, for me, is the definitive Monkees song - the first I remember hearing anyway. I really love the keyboards on this (Hammond Organ?) | |
