I believe this song is about some sort of sexual taboo. It is about engaging in some sort sexual behavior which is unacceptable. He knows that this behavior is morally or socially wrong, but he wants to have it and has to have it. |

One last thing about my interpretation, I think he believes that goo and caring people exist in the world but deep down he knows he will never find them because he just can't let go of his inner demons. He also is well aware that he is a psychological mess because he knows his evil angel fills him full of lies about the world. The evil angel tells him that no one can be trusted and everyone is out to hurt him, but even though he knows this isn't true, he gives in to the safety that these messages from the evil angel provide. |

I believe this song is about a personal struggle. The man in the song is desperately searching for some sort of deep emotional meaning in his life, he is most likely searching for deep emotional connections with others but something inside of him is making it impossible for him to do so. The song hints at a life full of deceitful relationships and betrayal which have left him unable to trust anyone and thus incapable of deep emotional connections. I think he views the evil angel as the wall of psychological defenses he has built up over the years as a way of protecting himself from the hurt he has experienced in the past. The evil angel has left him paranoid and hateful of others, especially those who purport to be righteous (could explain the religious imagery). I think the song embodies the struggle of wanting to let go of this evil angel in side, but then realizing that he cannot let the angel go because it is the only thing protecting him from the pain of his world. |
