This song is about an independent girl who wants to break away from who she is with because they are going nowhere, and she is not experiencing all the things she could by staying in the relationship. The lines “Weight of days lost holding you down” and “Won’t be haunted by dreams I’ve deferred” show that she has been missing out, and wants to live the dreams that she has been putting on hold. She realises she doesn’t need anyone else to do all the things she can do by herself, and because the person who she is with is not the right person for her, she wants to break away and live independent of them. “Kiss goodbye a dozen times before we get there” shows that she is in love with this person, so breaking away is slightly more difficult. Along with this is the line “Fear will hold you back, if you believe in that”, meaning the fear of detaching yourself and going it alone will prevent others from breaking away, but she herself *will* break away because she doesn’t believe in fear holding her back. You’ll have to look for her, but she won’t be found — she’s gone to break the sky herself! |
