| Clare Maguire – The Shield and the Sword Lyrics | 14 years ago |

I'm in love with this song, reminds me of 'Rolling in the Deep'. Not a fan of the video, though. It could be an allusion to songs like their 'Teenage Dream' or 'Bad Romance' where the relationship was pretty much doomed from the start, but that might be stretching it. The lyrics are pretty clear, though. 'Now it seems there's far too many adverts in between': the good times are becoming fewer and further between. 'You have the shield, I'll take the sword': the imagery of the sword and shield being broken apart is nice, but who gets what is important. She needs the sword to 'stab' him by telling him she doesn't love him, but she wants him to have the shield so he can fend off the blow; she wants to avoid hurting him as much as possible. |
