The Dream Academy – Life in a Northern Town Lyrics 14 years ago
Fascinating it reminds you of home in NE Ohio, daris. This record is so English, you can almost see the backdrop of a smoking chimney against an overcast sky. Nice to see it works outside of these shores too.

This is about Nick Drake - and if you haven't heard Drake then you are lucky. Luck Why? Because you now have the opportunity to listen to three peerless albums by one of the greatest singer / songwriters who ever lived. You are in for a rare treat. 'Five Leaves Left', 'Bryter Layter' and 'Pink Moon' are matchless classics from the very late sixties and early seventies and are pretty much (barring a couple of outtake albums) all that Drake recorded in his all too short life. It's a cliche but Drake really was about two decades ahead of his time and would have been treated with the respect he desrves today. (Note: on an earlier thread someone says Drake's work is 'not polished'. This is utter tosh)

Back then, he missed mainstream - his music falls between many stools and was difficult to categorise and promote at that time (now we wouldn't bother) - and become depressed as a result and died through a probablt accidental overdoes of anti-depressants. But what a legacy. Fair play to Dream Academy, by the way. This record is something that Drake himself would have been proud of.
