Glassjaw – Pink Roses Lyrics | 12 years ago |
instead of: "Maybe when you need that Cadillac they'll sense" try: "lead with your need as god descends." |
The Bronx – Enemy Mind Lyrics | 12 years ago |
it totally says 'one body pulled' |

Glassjaw – All Good Junkies Go To Heaven Lyrics | 12 years ago |
going on what bathosdrift said, from the chorus i can see a sort of domesday parallel there. 'when the medicine you fancy has all run out' - i.e. when we've used up all our resources, and the world comes to an end, 'all good junkies go to heaven' - all the 'good' believers are taken into heaven. i think there may be something in that for the rest of the song, maybe more religious themes as we see on loads of the new glassjaw stuff.. but i can't draw out any more specifics on this one. |
Glassjaw – Stations of the New Cross Lyrics | 12 years ago |
i quite like this idea :) i can totally picture this. all the imagery's there. then this will all be a big metaphor for something daryl regrets i imagine.. |
Glassjaw – Black Nurse Lyrics | 12 years ago |
i can't help but think it's 'The last man in was the first to take the BOW' and i'm also not so sure on that 'Does he bow when you're around?'.. not that i have any significantly better suggestions, although maybe something to do with ground, and it sounds like the same thing before the last stanza is repeated again. generally, i like the idea that this is a black nurse who has the ability to help, but doesn't. it fits. |
Glassjaw – Popular Opinion Lyrics | 12 years ago |
that was a little unnecessarily harsh on someone's innocent ignorance. i came on to this song also not having a clue that daryl featured on this. if you're going to be that exacting, then maybe you should learn how to spell/use grammar, so it doesn't come across as hypocritical pedantry. |
Glassjaw – Black Coffee Lyrics | 12 years ago |
i totally agree. |
Glassjaw – Oxycodone Lyrics | 12 years ago |
maybe, glycerine instead of this non-extistent word 'glicering' haha |
Glassjaw – Natural Born Farmer Lyrics | 12 years ago |
i going with vengeful. and agreeing with that as the whole line :) |
Glassjaw – Jesus Glue Lyrics | 12 years ago |
what's the sample at the beginning?? |
Glassjaw – Mu Empire Lyrics | 12 years ago |
i'd also been wondering about the title, did some quick research for others who didn't know about this 'fictional' former continent called mu: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mu_%28lost_continent%29 i presume this is what the title would be referring to. i'm feeling the connection between the lyrics and the title, is that these ulcers from his illness, mr. shiver, as mentioned by Tony Clifton, are the 'children shivering in the river,' which i've taken as a potential metaphor which could be akin to mu supposedly sinking into the atlantic. so to 'make it over the mountain' would be for the ulcers to subside, i.e. cease to exist. i think i might be onto something, haha |
Glassjaw – Mu Empire Lyrics | 12 years ago |
so like, i'm agreeing with the theory that this song's about daryl's ongoing battle with his disease. but the only thing i never get, is this 'times ten' business that comes up in several GJ songs. i think i read someone mention it could be to do with being straight edge because 'times' is like, the multiplication 'x', but that doesn't really shed much light on it for me.. so, i shall patiently sit and see if i ever get a response to this :) |
Deftones – This Place Is Death Lyrics | 12 years ago |
yeha, i read through each of your posts as well whilst listening to the album simultaneously etc. and found it really interesting! like this other guy said, there were shaky moments, and then moments where i feel your theory held up really well but you neglected to emphasise! but generally, i really appreciate the amount of time you've put into what seems to be a relatively sound postulation :) but we may never know for certain. it's an amazing journey regardless. |
Deftones – 976-EVIL Lyrics | 12 years ago |
in this entire stream of interpretation.. if anything, i'd say chino is this 'prince/son,' i don't think Mr TomIn703 wants to infer that chi's son is the antichrist, haha. |
Glassjaw – Radio Cambodia Lyrics | 13 years ago |
fml, double posting. |
Glassjaw – Radio Cambodia Lyrics | 13 years ago |
can anyone elucidate the significance of: 'Contrary to what you believe We oscillate and vary speed. The food in jail is sulphury. How do inuits spell relief?' some guy said that it was actuall 'flat-footed jealous suffering', either way. i don't get it. inuits is relating to the whole nuclear winter metaphor, but it's the middle two lines i just don't get, making the stanza really elusive for me haha, (i'm interested to see if there will be a response to this within a number of years) |

Johnny Truant – Necropolis Junction Lyrics | 13 years ago |
i hear 'when the world's caving in, the damage turns to stone' as opposed to what's written. dunno if anyone else would agree? :) yes that's right i'm still in love with this album. |
Johnny Truant – Throne Vertigo Lyrics | 13 years ago |
i had a headache for the rest of the day as a result of the intro to day in the death.. haha, as for this song, yeah, all that carnal imagery and stuff. i'd like to know why it's called throne vertigo though? |
Johnny Truant – Throne Vertigo Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Rymon, i think he's talking about a different download.. i was at download 08 and the crowd were pretty sick for JT :) |
Johnny Truant – Dirty Vampire feeding Frenzy Lyrics | 13 years ago |
if you keep your promises, i promise nothing's wrong. maybe? |
Fear Before – My (Fucking) Deer Hunter Lyrics | 13 years ago |
it's weirdly reminiscent of the truman show, to a mild extent.. |
The Dillinger Escape Plan – I Wouldn't If You Didn't Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Mr Wilson would beg to differ: "The title recalls the stale debate every relationship is perversely built upon: the drama trap of justifying one's actions against another's." i suppose that's only an explanation of the title and could be alluding to the relationship between god an man.. i like these previous two arguments to be honest, but: 'So now how do I live without you? It seems you've had a lot of time to work it out' it's got a really emotional delivery to it in my opinion. my conclusion is that it's a heartache song, as well as antithesis to religion disguised as one another. probably addressing the very general issues of faith in mankind/a specific human or a god. but at the same time, you can take out so many lines from this and apply them to an awful lot, a brilliantly written song! |
The Dillinger Escape Plan – Gold Teeth on a Bum Lyrics | 13 years ago |
as CloseButNoGuitar mentioned, bassist said: "This is a song about keeping your priorities in order during an age when taking care of the luxuries and letting the necessities take care of themselves is often the default mode of thinking ourselves into a proverbial corner." |
The Dillinger Escape Plan – Crystal Morning Lyrics | 13 years ago |
"This song is one of the most thematically focused songs we've ever written. Lyrically, it's a reaction to and a reflection on Crystal Night or Night Of Broken Glass, which was the Casus belli of sorts for German Jews at the very beginning of World War II. Musically, I think it supports itself with dark anarchist themes and a chaotic, almost self-destructive vibe to it." |
The Dillinger Escape Plan – Good Neighbor Lyrics | 13 years ago |
The bassist drescibed it as: "lyrics loosely stabbing at the musician/fan relationship in an age of uncontrolled transparency, unregulated thievery, and debatable integrity surrounding the music industry." which supports what you've said. :) |
Every Time I Die – Turtles All The Way Down Lyrics | 13 years ago |
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turtles_all_the_way_down -the concept is a very popular one in the mythology of many cultures. i think it's keith's struggle with the value of his own writing. and whether or not he's actually existing in the here and now, rather than spending all his time thinking about how things should be 'observed'. and yeah, the nietzsche stuff: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%9Cbermensch#This-worldliness that's what i think inspired this. although i feel it may be about writers in general, something he can relate to. rather than a direct experience. maybe. that's what i've tried to extract. |
Every Time I Die – Roman Holiday Lyrics | 13 years ago |
it's probably worth noting the line that 'all of them witches' is a fictional book in the film Rosemary's Baby. the film is about a couple that move into a house, then the woman becomes 'mysterious pregnant'. it seems to make sense as far as the idea of a fatherless child goes in this context. there is also a mexican film entitled 'all of them witches' - i'm not sure that's relevant though. and obviously the title of the song is shared with the audrey hepburn film, in which she runs away to fall in love with a 'newsman' in rome. so the song may well be about girls pursuing leadsingers of bands. but there's so many that the vocalist can take his pick, etc. making them ragmen, collectors as it were. but that doesn't make full sense.. the song's definitely talking about sex in a graphic way by the end. given the opening line as a precedent. but fuck knows about ghosts in lighthouses.. haha! vaguest of speculations there, i apologise. |
Every Time I Die – Apocalypse Now and Then Lyrics | 13 years ago |
too glaring* |
Every Time I Die – Morphine Season Lyrics | 13 years ago |
i find this ep the least cryptic of all keith's works.. which definitely doesn't detract from the beauty of his lyrics! but it's pretty obvious what he's singing about in every song, as opposed to other releases where he's far more enigmatic. |
Emmure – A Voice From Below Lyrics | 13 years ago |
is it just me, or is this song basically just a lesson from nichole off felony? haha! not that it's a problem for me, since that was potentially my favourite song off felony, this just feels like a lesser version thereof. lyrics are pretty self-explanatory.. emmure aren't ones for subtlety, but that's what makes them who they are (: |
Every Time I Die – Apocalypse Now and Then Lyrics | 13 years ago |
is there any significance in the title including the film title 'apocalypse now'? it seems to glaring a reference to ignore. maybe. it's definitely to do with someone mindlessly following oders, in the sense of a puppet, that 'wrong' a lot of people, or maybe just the subject matter. i dunno, i'm struggling to get a specific sentiment from the song as a whole, with my adulation for such lines as 'Everywhere we go we're the local boys and we're back in town' but i can make neither head nor tail of the relevance to the rest of the lyrics.. haha, oh man. |
Every Time I Die – Hit of the Search Party Lyrics | 13 years ago |
it's definitely 'appointed to speak', check the lyric book. and listen carefully, it's a 'p' sounds, rather than a 'v' |
Every Time I Die – Ebolarama Lyrics | 13 years ago |
yeah, having read through all the comments. finally someone stopped ignoring some pretty important lines. there's a whole negative slant on the song that negates the value of all this fun. i think it's just an obvious dichotomy of life he leads. |
Every Time I Die – Off Broadway Lyrics | 13 years ago |
i agree with bajp. but also johnrm. i think it's worth bearing in mind the film dancer in the dark's quote 'in a musical nothing dreaful ever happens' like the song title from their previous album but if you read the synopsis of the film, it reflects these lyrics on a pretty obvious level. |
Every Time I Die – Romeo A Go-Go Lyrics | 13 years ago |
i like what you've said, but feel that you've ignored the significance of your own insights with regards to the song as a whole. the don quixote thing is about him being a hopeless romantic. a knight errant as it were. and i like the thing about taking what he said literally. but i see it more as him acknowledging that the girl that is the subject of his desires, is also lusted after by many others. and like, all the attention he craves throughout the song is for a girl. which you probably made full sense of, but yeah. incredibly crafted song :) |
The Bronx – History's Stranglers Lyrics | 13 years ago |
'cheap tales of modern love' is surely what he says? and the 'face of a millions strangers' makes more sense :) just exemplifies why the bronx are so good. |
The Bronx – Shitty Future Lyrics | 13 years ago |
i hear 'with neon lights for veins' just sayin' |
