| Confederate Railroad – Daddy Never Was The Cadillac Kind Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| This song is about a man who enjoys the simple pleasures of life, and shuns the fancy, expensive things that "glitter and shine". The classic blue-collar man who loves his family and works hard to put food on the table, clothes on their back, and a roof over their heads. It's a song that makes you really think about how money, while it does buy many things, can never buy love and true happiness. Cadillacs have always been known as "fancy" cars, and by Danny Shirley singing that his father was not the Cadillac kind, he was basically saying his father was not a man of material things, but a man who knew where his real treasures lay. | |
| Eagles – Lyin' Eyes Lyrics | 14 years ago |

In my opinion, this awesome song is the story of a woman who is conflicted when it comes to love and relationships. In the beginning, she wants to be with a rich older man who will provide her a comfortable lifestyle, and she'll never have to worry about money because he will always provide for her, even after he's dead and gone, she'll be taken care of. However, as time goes by, she gets lonely and isn't satisfied with her husband. Their love life seems to be virtually non-existent, and she probably doesn't feel very motivated to make love to her husband, with his hands "as cold as ice". She longs for a passionate romance with a younger man, and is willing to sacrifice money and comfort for a romantic affair. She cheats on her husband, and eventually, leaves him for the younger man. Whether she murdered her husband or not isn't clearly shown, chances are she may have, but it isn't definitively stated in the song. The fact that she was depressed and drinking strong drinks is an indication that she may have and feels regret about it. The love she was hoping for with the young man didn't work, as Glenn Frey sings " Ain't it funny how your new life didn't change things", meaning that she's still conflicted in her heart about what she wants in her life. Obviously this young man was not rich like her old husband was, and perhaps she realized that she made the wrong decision? So that's my take on it, that it's the story of a woman with lyin' eyes who cannot hide what she feels in her heart, feelings that she herself has great difficulty sorting out. |

| Eagles – Hotel California Lyrics | 14 years ago |

To me, Hotel California is definitely a song with a lot of mystery and almost a dream-like quality to it. The lyrics are definitely very metaphorical, because, if taken literally, it definitely is confusing and leaves you wondering what the heck Don Henley was singing about?! If I remember correctly, Don Henley stated the song was a metaphor of the rampaging excess of the time and was a song of the times in a way. Someone else on here had stated that it was about the music business in California, and I think that is a good point. If the song is about excess, it could also be about addiction, as excess and addiction go hand in hand. The "hotel" could be the actual addiction itself, and the fact that he could never leave could be the feeling of being trapped within the addiction. There are promises of pleasure (livin' it up at the Hotel California) but ultimately there is just pain and frustration (they stab with it with their steely knives, but they just can't kill the beast), the beast being the addiction itself. This song is definitely a much-debated one, as far as the meaning goes, but sometimes with songs, you just have to enjoy it for what it is, which is a marvelous song and one of the best songs from the Eagles. |
