Radiohead – Faust Arp Lyrics 13 years ago
I think it's clear, the song is about a conflict between religous and nihilistic beliefs, as Faust Arp implies. Faust was an alchemist of German legend who sold his soul to Mephistopheles in exchange for knowledge. Mephistopheles is considered by many sources to be Satan. If Satan exists then so does God. Religion. Arp was an Alsatian artist and poet who was cofounder of dadaism in Zurich, Switzerland. Dadaism was a nihilistic art movement in 20th century Europe. Nihilism, by definition, is the delusion that things (or everything, including the self) do not exist. The lyrics seem to support it. The key verses to this song are, "There's no real reason" and "You've got a head full of feathers, You got melted to butter" There's nothing in your head, you are nothing.

Radiohead – Lotus Flower Lyrics 13 years ago
Thom Yorke's desire for the opposite sex is painfully obvious in so many of his songs. Homosexual he is not. He may be evasive in his song writing, but some things are clear. I agree with hudsucker, wishful thinking on your part.

Radiohead – Codex Lyrics 13 years ago
I think the title needs to be considered in the interpretation of this song. A codex is an unbound manuscript of some ancient classic (as distinguished from a scroll) Such as holy scripture, the Bible for instance.

"Slight of hand" implies a deception. The rest of the song could be interpreted as common religious rhetoric. Christianity is a good example. Deception of religion or the hope it implies is my interpretation.

The lake is the hands of God and baptism. God's hands are all enveloping, like water. Baptism is symbolic, "Just dragonflies flying to the side" your sins are being washed away as if they never happened. "You've done nothing wrong"

"No one around" implies a personal experience, like salvation. "No one gets hurt", your personal beliefs hurt no one.

"The water's clear and innocent" is an enticing statement. Who wouldn't want to jump in and lose themselves. Of course the first verse,"Slight of hand", says it's all a lie.

This song is very sad, because if my interpretation is correct, then there is no hope.
