Hey, I need some help! I've had a version of this song that I downloaded about six years ago that sounds different from the radio and album version (which are apparently the same). It's a little bit longer, Brandon Flowers's vocals don't sound as clean, and it's less orchestrated. I posted a similar question on "Mr. Brightside". If need be, I can email you the version that I have. Let me know if you can shed some light on this! Thanks! |

Hey, I need some help! I've had a version of this song that I downloaded about six years ago that sounds different from the radio and album version (which are apparently the same). It's a little bit longer (about 30 seconds more), Brandon Flowers's vocals are distorted during the verses, some singing at the end is left out, it's slightly faster, and it's less orchestrated. I posted a similar question on "Somebody Told Me". If need be, I can email you the version that I have. Let me know if you can shed some light on this! Thanks! |

I agree with the masturbation theory, but I also think that the lyrics could involve a girl who he likes. I don't think the band was going for a moral theme, but you could also say that he's forgiven by God, but he can't stop because he's addicted. |

I agree with Sabbra21 and Malthe on the meaning: the world is screwed up, but that shouldn't stop you from enjoying life. Once in English class, my teacher told us to write a journal about what song or poem defines us the best, and I chose this one. |
