| He Is Legend – The Widow of Magnolia Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
Judging by the way he refers to the girl, I believe Magnolia is a mermaid. Mermaids traditionally were said to call to sailors on ships and either get them to jump overboard or to crash the ship and I believe in some folktales, they could change the way they look to entice men further. So the song sounds as if the ship was possibly destroyed by a whale (perhaps because he stared at the mermaid instead of masting the helm) and now hes crash landed and can still see her perhaps a distance away and wishes he could be with her. Mermaids were also known to drag men down to the bottom of the sea so its entirely possible thats where she went and when he couldn't see her anymore he knew thats where she was. So thats why he says he'll be coming home. To her home, under the sea. |
