The whole song is a study of reality through the lens of opposites: inside vs. outside, fact vs. fiction, heart vs. brain. When looking at something, which view shows the soul or the truth of the matter, and which is just a shadow or filter of the truth. what romantic projections do people create in their minds. In the midst of his loneliness in the aftermath of being left, he's perfecting his idea of what he had. He's longing for a perfection that he never really had. Is he longing for only perfect 'three summer days' he's created for himself? The first stanza sets this up with the heart vs. the mind contradiction. The eye with vision (just like the heart with relationships) is the first receptor, the first judge. Because, it's first, is it closer to the original and therefore more true? or is the brain more true after it's had time to correct our eye's vision. (like kissing lipstick) Our brain tends to do the same thing to our heart after a while in a relationship. The brain is always catching up with our instincts but must we lie to ourselves? It’s a good day to skip out on our thoughts (on our thoughts) And just enjoy this jaded joke You’ve gotta kid yourself To make the mile work The mile represents life, and he can't find anyone to be with him. By repeating "aren't they just like monsters" several times, he's emphasizing that the brain does more than just a physical function of inverting an image, but the brain also locks onto the idea and dwells on it, dissects it, considers it over and over again and thinks it over constantly. something ostensibly beautiful even. But is all that thinking and interpretation bringing him closer to the truth, or further from the truth. Did he really have a perfect relationship, (still you don't grab my hand) or is he weaving a myth of perfection. Which is fact, which is fiction? The heart or the mind? In the last lines of the song I think he realizes that he's longing for a false perfection. (be the love your looking for) His reality is that he's alone now. That's the fact. The fiction is the relationship that's now over: they were together, but it couldn't work because it wasn't true. All the time they spent together was just a sham because at the heart of the matter it couldn't work. (still you don't grab my hand/Then end surrounded with “désolé”) |

| My Forever – Now Faded Photographs Lyrics | 14 years ago |

There's no way I'm working for The one who could have you There's no way I'm working for The one who could have you the chorus is definitely my favorite part of this song. not only for it's sound, but for it's lyrics. To me, the narrator has memories of maybe a past relationship that could have been something great and still thinks of that person. he's stuck in a world of fakes and drama queens and maybe the one person who made sense to him, or who was different from all the rest, ended up being an abusive relationship, not violent just aggressive. what a beautiful song. This one is a heart breaker. I think its got something for anyone who still dwells one of their more recent failed relationships. One of the things I love most about these lyrics is that unspoken understanding they embody between two people. I'm sure this song in effect, wrote itself. Roy draws in a passage of time that you can feel in his lyrics. It gives this simple song so much depth. And I think the dependent nature of photographs and on the seasons really gives a person (or in effect, the couple) the feeling of being at mercy of the inevitable. Its funny how well it works. That fading photographs that could support the burden of a relationship.. Its as tangible in the song as the 'love' between two people that you may have once felt leave your own failed relationship. This song is special to me- I've certainly got healing to do of my own.(blatantly obvious?) But I believe this song is more than a sad retrospection. It signifies a coming to terms with life and love. Something we all get along to doing as we go on. These lyrics kind of capture the beauty of the ebb and flow of emotion and attachment. this song reminds me a lot of a quote said in the movie paris, je t'aime it says: There are times when life calls out for a change. A transition. Like the seasons. Our spring was wonderful, but summer is over now and we missed out on autumn. And now all of a sudden, it's cold, so cold that everything is freezing over. Our love fell asleep, and the snow took it by surprise. But if you fall asleep in the snow, you don't feel death coming. Take care Beautiful |

| My Forever – Rusted Visionary Lyrics | 14 years ago |

...this song is about how some of us focus in on the destination instead of the journey...i know i do the same thing...we think to ourselves, "i'm going to do this, so that this will happen.", but we never think, "i wonder what i'll have to do to get this done."...it's along the same line as paging through catalogs with no intent of buying the products...we just stare at yearned-for items and dream...that's what i think this song means. Its about letting go and being in the moment. Breathe hearts on frosty windows Only fools wait till they melt Maybe, maybe, maybe my first thought was, 'this song is about heaven.' "Crushed iris (closing eyes) dusky colours" would be, well, death. "One last moment with you Fly my delusioned angel" but the more i listen, i have to think it about 'flying' right here. 'higher than sleepless weather' yet in our atmosphere. right here where you can love and be loved by others, and by the sun ...and be clean and new, and even in the dirt find something of more value than what might be obvious. you have to dig for it with your bare hands. and i think he's dreaming of one day escaping to this place, where he can be new again, where he can fly higher than sleepless weather, where his thoughts lie. but for now he's got to reserve his thoughts and focus on finding a way out 'killing it for you.' she will take him there. I feel innocent with sunken smiles now One last moment with you Fly my delusioned angel Higher than sleepless weather Tainted point of view ...saying that he sends his wishes/thoughts/dreams/etc. into the future, instead of thinking about the path he'll have to travel to get to them... |

"In our sleep, pain that cannot forget falls drop by drop upon the heart and in our despair, against our will, comes wisdom through the awful grace of God." ~RFK quoting Aeschylus My teacher put that quote upon the board and it immediately reminded me of this song. The metaphors seem to be similar and I'm still trying to work out the themes of both, but what do you guys think? Similar? (Or am I completely crazy?) |

| My Forever – Island of Rain Lyrics | 14 years ago |

Take it away from me Straight from this faded sleep Empty the figurine This island of rain is weak well. considering the context the rest of the song puts this passage in, i feel like this is a cry from Roy to someone else seeking the same answers as him (the "big truth about life/the universe"). because we all know how lonely it can be when you can't find another soul to comprehend the thoughts you have, or perhaps, in Roy's case, the answers he's searching for. so to seriously dissect this: 1) he's asking what will become of him if he continues to search for that knowledge, because 2) he's finding it hard to give up the quest, regardless of the letdowns he has faced/may face. 3) when he speaks of straight from this faded sleep, i believe he's talking about all the ignorance in this world. how most people are oblivious and 'weak' to the great information Roy wishes to receive..the goal he's illustrated with this song is unknown to most but is has become an 'island of rain' creating solitude and 4) how alone this realization can make him feel. which, in turn, can 5) make one wonder if he's the only one, if he's missing what seems to continuously fill the brains of those other people, 'empty the figurine' content without the great status of achievement Roy's been searching for. 6) he describes that contentness with the analogy of sleeping peacefully with their dreams, and he's wondering if he's just missing his dream. |
