| I always thought this song meant the man singing was unfaithful in the past, or he did something awful, creating problems in their marriage and the woman lost trust in him over time. She wants to give up and leave him so she could be free. But now regretting his mistake, he is desperate not to lose her. This song is basically a plea to for her to stay, saying "put your money on me" as a bet that he won't hurt her like that again, that he will grow old with her and not to worry. Obviously "put your money on me" is the appropriate phrase for this song because of the album's corporate-age theme. | |

| Carry Me to Safety is so fantastic and emotional. It's about the speaker's desire to give up after trying his best and trying to keep his head up for so long. He's saying here, "it's over, I tried, I no longer wish to keep going" and is using sports as a metaphor for his internal feelings. A great way to end his album, since the lyrics and the music are both bittersweet. | |

| It's about the speaker leaving someone, and that ex-partner struggled and became lost, although the speaker didn't care enough to think about them. Time passes, she feels these anxieties and strange thoughts ease closer, but she assumed her ex wasn't the reason, or tried to believe otherwise, and eventually, the guilt overcame her and now she realizes how much the ex truly resents her from her lack of empathy when she initially left. She explains how none of this is the ex's fault. The speaker sees her relationship with this person as a complicated mess: "We are stranger than Earth with the seasons misled". | |

This song is about the speaker feeling resentment from someone that is close to her (most likely a parent, or family member) because of their stubbornness of their ways (religious/ cultish beliefs, moral compass, etc.) and how the loved one has always disapproved of the speaker as a result. "Dust Hymn" stands for the old traditional belief of something, that in the eyes of the loved one, must true and has to be followed. "Dear lie still along my old web, cursed by your dust filled hymn." the speaker is stuck in the past and the lingering disapproval of the loved one haunts her. The "dew under the bed, where sweat and dreams have dread"- The speaker tries to put all her bad thoughts and anger behind but she knows those anxieties and harsh feelings still linger there. "Your feet would touch the floor Drift around our board" - The loved one would pace back and forth around the room, arguing with the speaker. "Hang you like a lullaby" very interesting line. She's saying that she would still listen to/obey the loved one despite her feelings against what the loved one wants for her. "Little voices left to rot and plot"- the speaker eventually becomes very angry, and restless, maybe even vengeful. "The crunching of your teeth might help you sleep But will not lift you" -the loved one's anger toward the speaker goes away at times, but the anger won't rest in the long run and the loved one will never be free from the chains of their stubbornness. "Always wished you'd walk Through another song Hangs you like a lullaby" -the speaker wishes that the loved one never believed their traditional beliefs, and stuck through with that wish from the very beginning. "Hangs you" -- now the speaker refers to the loved one, clinging on to their beliefs with no question; obeying it like a moral compass. Dust Hymn is a pretty angry song. I think the music captures that anger very well, especially towards the line "Little voices left to rot and plot". Anyway this is my interpretation/translation. Beautiful song and well written. |
