To me, its about a son who has grown to a man its time to leave the house, leave the home his father raised him in, leave his father's life. Not completely, not what I mean. Just that he's going to follow different footsteps, follow a different path than his dad. They're just different people. Nothing his father says about where the son wants to go will change the son's mind. And I think the son is telling him its okay. Its okay he's leaving, its okay he's following a different path in life. To me, there is still love conveyed there for his father even if he's not going exactly where the father wanted him to go. |

Great song. Pretty straight forward. Two people who were once very close who've grown apart. No need to carry over any hurt, at least by the singer. He seems to have moved on, some good feelings remain, but they're apart. They'll always be friends to some degree in the singer's eyes, but whatever they had is done. There does seem to be implied a lack of moving forward and some bitterness reamining for whomever he is singing to. Not really an obscure meaning song, but where is it written one needs to be to be great? It isn't. |

I kinda think the video holds a lot of clues. Perhaps about a relationship where one party has some mental health issues, but Ben Orr is singing from the perspective of the person who sticks with that person anyways. |

I actually think "Tunnel of Love" by Bruce is an underrated album and has aged well. It was considered a major disappointment after "Born In The USA" came out before it. But its just a different, introspective album. Probably one of the first times Bruce spent most of an album commenting on himself and his own situation rather than society in general. But still, the songs relate to everyone's personal situations as well. I find it a somewhat sad album. And this song definitely reflects that. At the time, Bruce had married Julianne Phillips and that was falling apart and eventually ended up in divorce. And you can see Bruce's troubled life, marriage and emotions throughout this album, but particularly this song. |

Not a bad pop rock song I guess. Nothing special musically or lyrically and I find the shouted group of guy segment cheezy. But I will admit, the song makes me chuckle a bit. The lyrics. I find it almost as a male rebuttal to Gloria Gaynor's female anthem "I Will Survive." So on that level, I guess I like it to some degree. And what guy hasn't felt the emotions the song is about. So, it gets a mild thumbs up from me. |

| Dave Matthews Band – Bartender Lyrics

One of my favorite DMB songs. I like their more melodic stuff with introspective records. They can be fast paced, like #41 for example, but I dislike them when they try straight on rock. I think they're terrible at it, like Shake Me Like A Monkey as one example.
Anyways, the music here they're at their best. And the lyrics are excellent. To me, its pretty straight forward about a guy who finds out he's dying. He has a drink and is thinking of his life, possible sins, excesses, etc. How he feels sorrow and fear, but is ready. He tells his sister not to feel bad, thru the Bartender of course.
Dave used to be a bartender. And this became one of my DMB faves when I was working part-time as a bartender too. Great song. |

| Weezer – Undone - The Sweater Song Lyrics

Personally I feel its about pretenses. For example, Weezer is known for their distinctive look/dress. And to some people, that's who they are. Their image. Some people are shallow and only associate with who they approve of and fits their personal idea of who they want to associate with If you strip away the clothing (or really the impression of a person....not who they really are), its the same person. They haven't really changed. But change that for some people, and they'd walk away from the same person they'd otherwise maybe be willing to consider. He's saying he isn't the glasses, the sweater, the outside shell so to speak, and neither is anybody else, but to some people, they're shallow enough to think that way...or not think is probably more accurate.
Just a thought.... |
