| Pete Yorn – Simonize Lyrics | 14 years ago |

I believe PY was alluding to the old game of "Simon Says"-- that game where in you lose when you don't do what the other player instructs. When he sings "Simonize", the context of the song suggests "to follow" (lyrics: follow me into the alleyway). If I was not aware of that Jack the Ripper reference, I'd think this would also be about love that a person doesn't want to lose. In a much simpler sense, the lover would rather find "wretched grand disaster" with the beloved rather than lose him/her. When i think about the ripper, the songs actually DOES make sense coz the dude always stalked his victims inn the alleyway. In any case, regardless of the book's reference, it's a very touching song. One of PY's most underrated songs from the Music for the Morning After album. |
