| This song makes feel totally energized. My eyes filled with tears when I first listened to it. I believe the song is about taking risks and trusting that in the end everything will be okay. I feel a touch of sadness in the acoustic version of the song because of the calming melody. ‘We got this down to a science.’ They have a plan for something that’s for sure. The song could also be about having fun and letting go–‘Don’t be afraid, be very afraid.’ In other words, don’t worry about anything–don’t take life too seriously. Believe in yourself. | |

To me the guy is in a struggle or conflict with himself over a girl. His dreams of insanity make it clear that he is losing his mind. I think he doesn't exactly know what to do with the issue he's facing. He is extremely lost and insecure. Think about 'You Found Me' by The Fray. The first line in that song says that the guy "found God". In 'Free Fall Without a Parachute', the guy is "six feet beneath the Earth." Maybe he's lost in that he doesn't see God in his life. I think that as far as the “feelings” in both songs are concerned, one is mainly of relief and appreciation while the other is mainly of desperation since the guy doesn't truly know what he wants to do and is desperate for answers–in his dreams he is a murderer, but in reality, who is he and what is he doing? Nurturing crude thoughts while choosing to stay in a hopeless relationship so as not to hurt anyone's feelings? Well let's look at the title, 'Free Fall Without a Parachute.' That's sheer suicide. Because it's all in his head, he's killing himself on the inside. We can tell he's experiencing pain. Maybe that five-year old he shot was himself, a reflection of who he used to be, innocent and naive. Â Remember dreams are roughly what we imagine in our heads. So sum it all together and we can assume the song is saying that there *is* an answer somewhere, we just have to find someone who has it and talk to them. Or we could just stop beating around the bush, let go and move on with our lives...You know, stop wasting time. |

I think the song's message is about letting go...Of friends, bad memories, mistakes. People keep things to themselves to avoid conflict and ruining relationships. This song says "let it out" and "no more hiding" and "face the music." But you just can't, because doing so would break you and maybe someone who means the world to you. A day comes by when the rocks fall hard on your back, crushing you. And it's over. Done. Finished. Dealing with the consequences ahead will be a future issue. The music during the 'I lie for you' part gives me goosebumbs. I think during that part, he is saying that he wears a mask to keep everyone around him happy. I can visualize those rocks falling on him at that point. He can't put up with the pressure anymore, and he's happy to be rid of it. (Halleluh.) |
