I know Dave claims this song is about nothing, but I think it actually has ties to his hatred for the worms that run the recording industry. I actually think he says "Trouble with the contract" instead of "Trapped within a contract". Either way, we is referring to music contracts that are less than favorable to the band and they kind of get tricked into signing. Later on, finding what a shit deal they got. I have an old interview done by Dave with some British or Australian reporter (not sure which one) and in that interview she asks "What is some thing you would never do again?" and Dave answers "Get stuck in a contract.". She follows up with something like "What do you mean?" and Dave says "Contracts are scary.". Anyways, I kind of think it has to do with that, as well as what some other said about the band being pigeon-holed into the Nirvana corner. But I have to admit, I love the older Foo material, compared to the stuff they are putting out today. I keep waiting for another album like this one, but I think they are too far and gone for that to happen. |
