Straight Edge is suppose to be something that unites people for a good cause, and living positively. It's not about violence because violence is not positive. It's not like "Oh, hey I'm Straight Edge so I'm going to go beat the shit out of everyone who does drugs or drink because I'm better than them." It's suppose to be a humble choice you make to better yourself. It's nothing to do with criticizing other people for the choices they make, that just makes you look like a hypocrite. |

Okay. It doesn't matter if Ian drinks or doesn't drink, he still created something that will forever be remembered. There will always be people that live the Straight Edge lifestyle. I mean, yes, people lived that way before he put a name on it. They didn't drink, smoke or have promiscuous sex. But he gave it a name, and made it something bigger than just a common set of personal guidelines. Now being Straight Edge unites people as friends, a community, and a brotherhood. It's something people can use to keep a good head on their shoulders, it's stability, it's power, it's not just some joke or something people do to fit in, it's a way of life. He wrote the lyrics to the song that is credited with creating the idea of Straight Edge. I think that alone should make any person who is Straight Edge or can relate to the lifestyle of being Straight Edge think of him as a hero, and an inspiration. |
