a belter of a new album, it must be said :) quite straight forward meaning that he is depressed because hes gay. confused desires since my teenage years (he has being unsure of his sexuality for years since he has being younger) i'm the same homo my family fears (he can't pretend that he isn't gay so is admitting to his family, even though they know that they will just deny it & give him grief for his sexuality) for my blue eyed boy there's a long distance longing (he has an urge to be with a guy) my behind closed doors fantasies going on (he obsesses over guys on his own, but is too afraid to come out of the closet) and i feel wrong ( could be either talking about how he thinks homosexuality isn't normal so doesn't feel comfortable being gay or it could be saying that he doesnt feel right while he is with a girl because hes gay) forgive me father for i have sinned (adressing god in a prayer or asking for forgiveness from his dad for having a gay son) i must confess it's brothers with my eyes that i undress (hes admitting that he has sexual desires with guys and not girls) once a day i think about killing myself (his fear about admitting to being gay is making him suicidal) i can't carry on i must be strong even though it hurts as i sing this song (he knows that hes got to face up to his feelings but is finiding it extremely difficulty to come to terms with his sexuality) and i feel wrong god it's only love (hes starting to question how significant ones sexuality and relationships really are) god for how long will I feel wrong? (hes sure its a phase and is questioning how long it will be until he can be normal and straight) |

i think i also have heard that interview elevenclockticktock. i love harry's voice in this song! here is an interpretation which would agree with elevenclockticktocks meaning: Hang me up on your wall, above the coal fire - (her parents will insists that their bodies are to be hung up in their daughters living room above the coal fire) Keep your promises, keep your promises Hang me up on your wall You're such a cold liar, do what your father says — (justifying the fact that the song is about a rebellious daughter by calling her a “cold liar” and telling her to do what her father says) What your father says. I still remember your voice, it turns my blood cold — (the daughter could be narrating this line by saying thinking about her deceased parents still freaks her out) The kids are fast asleep, keep them fast asleep Your soul still haunts these walls, like Taxidermy — (taxidermy is the act of stuffing a dead body and mounting it up on display which is what the daughter is forced to do with her parent’s bodies) Theres no kiss of life's, no baby don't pretend — (there’s nothing nice about this situation so there’s no point in pretending) With your heart in your throat and a gun to your head — (for whatever reasons she is forced to have her parents hung up) You can burn the money in the fireplace — (not too sure about this line but perhaps this is the only way that she’ll have access to her inheritance? ) You keep on telling white lies to the little kids — (she has to lie to her children to hide the fact that their grandparents bodies are here) I think its time they knew just what it means to live — (but maybe the children have a right to know? ) You can burn your parents in the fireplace — (kind of self explanatory) I saw you run from the cold, out of my arms — (her parents could be narrating this part and describing when their daughter started to go off the rails) Your mother cried for years, she cried for years — (the father claims that the mother was deeply upset about her wayward daughter I saw you run through the cold, put ice in my heart — (her father was also deeply disappointed by his daughter) Now tell me all your fears, i'll be your greatest fear — (he now feels even with his daughter by causing her as much trouble as she did to them when they were alive) You couldn't cut the smile from my face Cos we're so proud today, we're so proud today — (the parents are thrilled about the fact that finally they have found a way of upsetting the daughter as they feel she deserves it) Our eyes will haunt these walls, like Taxidermy |

She has told him that his promise isn’t relevant as she’s not going to stay with him. He continues to promise not to abuse her again even though he knows that he will. He ends the song by saying that if she ever tries to leave again that he will tie her to the bed and set the house on fire thus killing her. |

She claims that she likes getting messed around by her boyfriend and doesn’t mind been treated so badly because she’s so in love with him. I cant tell you what this really is, I can only tell you what it feels like And right now there’s a steel knife in my windpipe, I can’t breathe, I still fight while I can fight, As long as the wrong feels right it’s like I’m in flight. He can’t explain why he does these things to her although he knows its wrong he will continue to abuse her so he feels like he’s in control of the relationship. High off of the love, drunk from my hate, It’s like I’m huffing paint and I love it the more I suffer, I suffocate, and right before I’m about to drown, She resuscitates me, she fucking hates me and I love it. He can’t decide if he’s in love with the girl or hates her. He feels trapped in the relationship but gets a cheap thrill from knowing that his partner can’t stand him. like so many others i believe that this song was written by Martin in order to comfort his wife while she was trying to come to terms with her Father's death. I've tried to make my interpretation of the lyrics less specific to his personal situation though and therefore more relatable to everyone. When you try your best but you don’t succeed When you get what you want but not what you need, When you feel so tired but you can’t sleep Stuck in reverse. It’s claiming that although sometimes you may put your all into something like a relationship or love you don’t always benefit from it. All of your senses are disillusioned because you’re so depressed. When the tears come streaming down your face When you lose something you can’t replace When you love someone but it goes to waste Could it be worse? I think that this is describing a person’s reaction when they have found out some bad new like perhaps being told of a loved ones death. Although you love them it means nothing anymore as that person is dead. Lights will guide you home, and ignite your soul And I will try to fix you. The writer could be saying that in time the situation will become more bearable, but for the meantime he is prepared to do anything in order to make his partner feel better. High up above or down below When you’re too in love to let it go But if you never try you never know Just what you’re worth The first line could be wondering where the deceased love one is right now whether they believe in God (high up above) or just believe it’s the end when they are buried (down below) but they are trying to connect to them wherever they are. They are not ready to let go as they still love them too much. However, martin is trying to plea that she must try to move on and get on with her life. Tears stream, down your face. I promise you I have learnt from your mistakes. He’s saying that seeing her like this has made him learn how to deal with love. That could be that he might never truly fall in love in order to not be as much of a mess as she is in after her loved one has passed away. |

yumm this song is just so trippy but in a good way. i think that The lyrics are open to interpretation about it being about seeing an ex again that you haven’t quite got over or been a cheater. I like to think its about the latter, or a mixture of both so here’s my interpretation: I’ve seen it in my hands, Burn in my heart. I’ve seen it in my past, back in my home but does it make sense, to see her again I don’t know. He has control over a relationship and he knows it, and is aware that they both will get hurt as it has happened many times before. He knows he shouldn’t agree to meet up with someone else to cheat on his girlfriend, but he can’t resist. I’ve felt it for some time, now. And not at all Poison in my head, God love hurts I’m not looking for love, but its hard to resist I don’t recall being this dead He thinks he’s falling in love with his girlfriend and that he has been doing so for a while. His cheating ways coming from his head always hurt his heart. Although he doesn’t intend on falling in love he can’t help but do so. She’s the only one , Lost the best I had I found her in a dream Looking for me This heart’s on fire I’ll bring myself Up to fall, And down again His current/ex girlfriend is perfect for him and he is convinced that she is “the one”. He can’t help but fall in love with her no matter how hard he tries to prevent it. He’s come to grips with his attitude so realizes that maybe he shouldn’t embark on any relationships. His “perfect girl” is trying to engage in a relationship with him but he’s trying to insist that he’s not good enough for her and can’t give her what she deserves. These arms of mine don’t mind who they hold You were made for me, now I’ll leave love alone He realizes that he has met his perfect girl and will never find anyone else like her but still doesn’t know whether to let go of being in love or having casual sex. I can see the end of what I begun, A tale of love, Come and gone Now my love No promises I won’t go Falling in love. He knows that the relationship will never work and that it will end at some point and has vowed that from now on he will prevent falling in love or been involved in a relationship. |

one of my favourite songs, and always will be i think. here is my interpretation of it: Hello there, the angel from my nightmare. The shadow in the background of the morgue. The unsuspecting victim of darkness in the valley The start of this song could be a plea to a dead partner with the references to “morgue” and “angel” who starts to haunt his dreams and keeps appearing in his head. We can live like Jack and Sally if you want? Where you can always find me We’ll have Halloween on Christmas And in the night we’ll wish this never ends (we’ll wish this never ends) Jack and Sally refer to the characters of a Nightmare before Christmas where they are “dead” and celebrate Christmas at Halloween. I think this could be interpreted that he is willing to do anything she wants in order to have her back. The last line is simply saying he hope they go on forever, whether that be the sex lasts forever or just the relationship. Where are you? And I’m so sorry, I cannot sleep I cannot dream tonight. I need somebody and always, this sick strange darkness Comes creeping up so haunting everytime. He’s starting to get insomnia because he knows that his girlfriend is no longer around, but he knows he needs her so badly. He keeps on thinking that her spirit comes to visit him which makes him even more confused. And as I stared I counted, the webs from all the spiders Catching things and eating their insides Like indecision to call you and hear your voice of treason. in my opinion, one of the best songs ever written. but why does something so sad make me want to dance? here is my interpretation of the song: When routine bites hard, And ambitions are low, When resentment rides high But emotions won’t grow. And we’re changing our ways, taking different roads. He states that their relationship is starting to become a drag and it is no longer fun anymore. The longer they are with each other, the more their feelings fade into ones of hatred. Curtis is starting to develop a life outside of his relationship and thinks that the two of them have started to grow apart. Love, love will tear us apart, again. A pessimistic view that although they are in love with each other it’s not enough to keep them together, and in fact it might be because they love each other they need to break up. They love each other so much that they’ve realised everything wrong with one other. Why is this bedroom so cold? You’ve turned away on your side. Is my timing that’s flawed? Or our respect run so dry. Yet there’s still this appeal, that we’ve kept through our lives. When they sleep with each other in the night they sleep at opposite sides of the bed as they feel no physical attraction to each other anymore. He starts to question if he is in the wrong but then thinks maybe they just don’t respect one another so can’t love someone they don’t have respect for. However, he acknowledges the fact that there will always be an attraction between the two of them that will never fade. Do you cry out in your sleep? All my failings exposed. There’s a taste in my mouth As desperation takes hold Is this something so good? That we just can’t function no more. He’s realised that she’s unhappy and blames himself for it. He hastily tries to make a last ditch effort to salvage the relationship. But soon concludes that maybe they will never be able to make it work as they no longer work together. |
