Counting Crows – Colorblind Lyrics 10 years ago
I am jaded and hallow. I bought a dream that wasn't mine. I just wanted people to like me. I won't let anyone hurt me now. You don't get to hurt me. I bury my self deep. Denial and false desires. Walls guard me. A fortress surrounds me. Coffee black and egg white.

You see the real me. You don't buy the facade. I learn to trust you. I tell you my dreams. I'm ready for someone to knock my walls down. Pull me out from inside. I want to feel-- I don't care what happens. I am ready. I am ready. I am scared. I am nervous.

I lay my self before you. I am covered in skin. Yours, mine. Just you and I. No one else for this moment. I feel safe. I feel love. I feel... I am folding and unfolding. You peel back my layers and I am awakened.

Pull me out from inside. Life is to be lived fearlessly. Life is to be felt deeply and sincerly. I am deserving of real love and you teach me. It will be alright. Don't give up on me. I love you. I am ready.

Radiohead – Weird Fishes/Arpeggi Lyrics 13 years ago
Its quite simple actually. Its about how life or love or fill in the blank tempts you to go somewhere that seems so magical and mysterious and cool. But, then you realize its all phantoms and danger and hurt. And you try desperately to escape. Swim back to safer waters, so to speak.

Florence + the Machine – Dog Days Are Over Lyrics 14 years ago
This song is about someone who has been "hiding" from happiness for a long time.

She kissed away happiness with every meaningless fling. She washed it further away with every drunken sip.

She thought she didn't deserve to be happy because of her inner suffering-- abuse, loss, addiction, shame, regret, etc.

Every good soul has the right to happiness.

And finally ...
it hits her.
The truth, the light.
She realizes that she is not trapped in this mindset, this addiction, this relationship, this suffering.

Once realized, happiness comes toward her like a train on a track heading straight towards it's inevitable destination. Happiness hits her like a bullet to the head. A direct shot.

It's coming. Yes, for you, and you deserve it. Get ready to run with it, here it comes.

Run with everything you have, for your loved ones, for you. Leave your baggage, it's far too heavy and you won't need it where you are going.

You never wanted happiness,
but really deep down you want it and need it and deserve it.

So run with it.

Death Cab for Cutie – You Are a Tourist Lyrics 14 years ago
Beautifully said followthewhiterabit.

Expanding on this is the idea that some people won't understand the changes you feel inside. They may discourage you out of fear of the unknown or fear of risks that may ensue. As was said, you may feel this struggle internally as well.

You may be a "villian in the story you have written," not only because of your own fears, but also society. Maybe your society hasn't accepted who you are and what grows in your heart. They do not understand. But the fire grows nonetheless.

Maybe you have become a "tourist in the city you born" in because the place you live is now foreign to you--you are the foreigner amongst the people, attitudes, beliefs, rules, culture that have been set forth. Things look familiar because you grew up there, but in your mind this place isn't home anymore.

Home is a state of acceptance, growth, and love of the you who is blossoming into something more. (The dancers in the video portray this beautifully; a human kaleidoscope- blossoming, growing, changing, paths unfolding, people crossing)

The melody and lyrics are so beautiful, and the song is one that you just have to listen to more than once. It stirs emotions on the first listen, but you can't quite put your finger on what it is about it. Something inside makes you want to hear it again. There are more layers to unfold when your mind is ready to make the connections.

The idea of the beauty of the song itself unfolding before you with each listen, not being able to put your finger on it, listening again, the love that grows with each listen until finally you get it and you think, "Wow. This song is awesome."

This fire grows higher.

From society in general to the artists portrayal to the song coming to you---it flows perfectly on different levels.

And life eventually unfolds the way it should. If you listen to the burning in your heart it will unfold in beautiful ways.

Radiohead – True Love Waits Lyrics 14 years ago
This song epitomoises the melodrama of unrequited love. I think Thom is trying at once to point out the immaturity, as well as, the painful realization that our concept of "true love" can be fickle. He uses many childlike symbols- dressing like your neice, tiny hands, kitten smile, lolipops and crisps to create a sense of immaturity in the narrator. Even the refrain "Just don't leave, don't leave" brings to mind a child whining out for a loved one to stay with him a little longer. It is painful because the emotions, though naive, are innocent and raw. He has not yet learned that there are no ghosts which haunt the attic, that nothing can survive forever on lolipops and crisps. True love is a romantic notion. In truth, all things grow and change and nothing is really forever. The beauty in the pain of this discovery is what tares at your heart strings.
