If ya care, I just listened to the Casey Spooner/Alan Lava remix of 'Blue' and Patti's last line is actually 'Into the new' as opposed to 'Into me', which certainly adds something to the song as JMS's sign-off. |

so many great interpretations here...the truth probably lies somewhere in the middle...always thought the 'animal' was bush and/or his administration...'hated and feared for something we don't want' being the war...i always thought the line about religion and it's appeal to youth was how as kids, church was a 'must-do', and at the end of an hour there was nothing else there until next Sunday;kids (including me) got nothing from it whatsoever...'religion' shouldn't be confused with having faith...anyone can say they're a Christian, but are they Christ-followers? two different things, really...the moral majority claims somehow strives to justify everything with values and Christian teachings, none of it follows Christ's dosctrines...'make a sound, come down off the wall' may be a cry out for the Second Coming, for God to step in and strike down those who falsely use His name to justify their ways, and to end all this madness...that was longer than planned. my bad. |

obviously in the vast minority here, but i friggin' love this song...it ain't the political juggernaut that document-era tracks are, but it has its place...stuck in late-afternoon rush hour gridlock this song absolutely freezes time...great closer to a summery lp...not every song has to be about fightin' the man...sometimes its cool to just be...you'll do fine. |

facscinating convergence of country feedback and ebow...everything about this track is perfect...one thing's for true - rem know how to close out an album...ranks with find the river and untitled as my favorite curtain-closers...even reminds me of the chorus and the ring just a smidgen...would love to hear what michael would ever come up with on a solo record if he ever had to get it out of his system the way thom yorke did...patti smith as cosmic faery godmother?? |
