Right? And then the interpretations start pouring in before the correct lyrics are even up. Most of the songs from Endgame still don't have fully correct lyrics posted yet. The album booklet is a pretty trustworthy source since it comes through the band themselves, but apparently people feel more obliged to put their immediate, sometimes nonsense interpretations as the official lyrics. Personally, I don't understand how anyone who is intently listening to these songs could make some of the mistakes they do. Or why I can't simply enter the real lyrics from the booklet myself. What does it take to be able to edit lyrics on this site? |

the verses are a warning of the imminent danger of societal collapse or overthrow; the kind that historically go unheeded until it's far too late (whoever he's responding to just considers him that old town cryer). this is what happens to every great society in history, i.e. "rome was destroyed, spain was destroyed..." but he also mentions in the chorus that though what we (humanity, specifically capitalist america) have become is an unfamiliar face, it isn't yet too late, and we can shatter this reflection of what we hate if conscious enough. |
