| In an interview he said that he wrote the album after giving up drugs and drink and the like and replacing it all with coffee. He said that when the album came out he was amazed that people kept refering to it as a funny album as he thought it was dark as hell. I agree; when I first heard the album I hated it because I felt like I was intruding on his massive withdrawal, it never occurred to me that the bits that sounded funny where actually supposed to be funny. | |

It's interesting that when doing this live Devy will often say "Everybody ready for some death metal!?" I always thought it was a joke as this song is as far from death metal as you can get, but then I thought that maybe even though the song is called Life it's really about death, the 'see you on the other side' makes that more obvious. But then I realized it's actually about life AND death, the white and black, the Ying and Yang (the Strapping Young Lad and the Devin Townsend Band =op). This song sounds so simple yet it's ridiculously deep, and that's why it's my favorite song ever, I can never get tired of listening to it. |

I've always thought this song is about sex and voyeurism I wanna watch the rodeo linked with I wanna be in your little friend and I wanna live in your underpants gives that impression. The lines about seeing how feels when it's over suggests someone doing it for the first time and double-decker devil might be a threesome possibly. Or it could well be acid mixed with bi-polar, like SlowlyWeRot said =o) |
