Haha I agree with that too, mostly. He feels lonely, especially since she is over him now. Things still remind him of her and he hasn't quite gotten over it. He thinks hes still in love with her, but its those feelings of loneliness that make him just want to be with what he knows, which is her. He can't move on just yet. |

I think this song is about being in a relationship where the person is troubled and distant. And loving them so much that you'll accept they need time and distance even though its killing you and you can't take much more. You want them to be closer to you, and you know you can find happiness elsewhere but you can't say goodbye. And ultimately losing yourself in the process of trying to help them and make the relationship work. You thought you were stronger than you were, "I told you I was brave but I lied", but you just can't do it. "You came to me so hopeless I fell." |

I think this song is about being afraid of having life pass you by and getting lost in a routine where she just lets the days go by, thinking about all that shes lost with an ex-lover. Because she says "this empty bedroom won't make anything right" and "I'll mark off each day with a cross and I'll laugh about all that we've lost" clearly points out that there was someone in her life but they're no longer there. Shes listing off the months and saying "I'm alive" and thats all she really feels is alive. Not happy, not sad, just kind of there. Its about being alone after a relationship ends. I just broke up with my boyfriend of two and a half years and I literally feel like time is just passing me by like in the way this song represents. Everything in your life just goes from being so simple to being the hardest its ever been. I did the long distance thing with my ex because I went away to school and it was so easy and effortless for me, but all of a sudden he got really unhappy and changed on me, to the point where it was impossible to stay together. |
