| While that could be true, "waiting on line" in the seventies generally meant waiting in line for a movie, concert, etc... I'm not sure when or why the phrase changed from waiting "on line" to "in line", (probably had something to do with confusion of "online" as in the internet...), but, that's an other possible explanation.
