I don't think this song is that hard to figure out, But I don't think it's easier either. This may not always be the case, But most song-writers write their songs according their own feelings and situations. And if one understands the singer and writer of this song, John Vessely, One can understand what the meaning is. And if one knows about John Vessely's situation when he sang this song in the album, A Twist in My Story, One can get an idea. This is my interpretations according to that: The buttons on my phone are worn thin (He calls her with his phone, but she doesn't answer. But he doesn't give up, he keeps calling and calling her, hence mking the buttons on his phone worn down. I don't think they literally wore thin but you guys get the message.) I don't think that I knew the chaos I was getting in (He didn't expect this problem to come. In other words, he's facing unexepcted problems he wasn't prepared for just like everybody else) But I've broken all my promises to you I've broken all my promises to you (Somewhere in his marriage with his wife, he probably made a promise to his wife that probably involved changing and making this right again. (He's in love and is wondering how being in love with his wife makes him do things that seems as if she's not even trying. Anyone who has been in love must know what it feels like and must've asked this to themselves; or the one they're in love with at least once.) A phrasing that's a single tear, Is harder than I ever feared (He's trying so hard not to cry) And you were left feeling so alone (He made her feel alone, isolated, etc.) Because these days aren't easy Like they have been once before These days aren't easy anymore (Life's a lot more complicated now) Why do you do this to me? I should've known this wasn't real (He's doing that usual cliché thing where he says he should've known their love wasn't either real, meant to be, strong enough, or something like that) And fought it off and fought to feel (But real or not, he's still fighting to keep the love alive. He's still fighting to love her.) What matters most? Everything That you feel while listening to every word that I sing. (He wants her to listen to this song and understand the message he's giving her.) I promise you I will bring you home I will bring you home. (I have two interpretations of this. He either wants to make things right again, or the usual “my heart is a house and its your home”. In other words, he promises to love her again. Or maybe he wants to do both. It's possible...) I think I have an idea of what this song is by making it Sasuke Uchiha's from "Naruto" theme music. (The lyrics are WRONG by the way. I'll make the correct changes in this interpretation.) In my case, Sasuke is not only an example to the meaning of the song, he's also used as a symbol himself...I'll leave it to you guys to figure it out. ~(These are my perceptions)~ Here's my interpretation: Left everything behind me searching for the strength I thought I had inside me, ~(He left the best things he used to try to achieve something he assumed was better. In Sasuke's case, power.)~ Left you behind so lonely, ~(He feels lonely after leaving all his loved ones behind)~ Praying for the day that you would somehow find me. ~(He's begging his loved ones (Naruto and Sakura) to save find his old self beneath his new dark self)~ I was young (you were wrong) ~(Pretty self-explanatory. The text in the parentheses is from "someone else" that's telling him something he's telling himself for him.)~ But I tried ~(He tried to resist the darkness, evil, etc. you get what I mean.)~ (I was wrong And the years that I have lost are all I see) ~(He was wrong...and the years of what could have been if he hadn't left are all he thinks about.)~ Hear me now ~(He knows he's guilty and he wants to plead to his loved ones (Naruto and Sakura) to hear how very sorry he is) All I can say is I am not afraid, Of the world that I have tried to push away, ~(He rejected his old life of love and happiness because he feared it would interfere with his goal. In Sasuke's case, power and revenge.)~ I fight everyday, but I am to blame, ~(He's living through hell and understands it's only because he did it to himself.)~ I am not innocent, but I am not afraid. ~(He wants to go back to that love and happiness. Maybe he's done something wrong like, abuse, cheat, talked badly to, forsaken, took granted for, etc. Strange, lot of songs have been about some thing like this O.O And I can tell the singer, John Vessely, wrote this probably specifically for his wife cause they had a fight and divorced. Maybe he did something wrong to “throw them away” or something and he wants her and their life together back again. I like this song because it's no mistake it's written from the heart. This is currently my favorite song and I love John Vessely =D |
