I see what the guy above me is saying, but I dissagree. I think he is close and yet far at the same time. I think what Dio was trying to say with this song was that when people face the light that society shine on you, they seek "shelter" by acting like everybody else. When is says "faces in the window" basicly, when you are in the house (and incase someone who reads this doesnt know a house counts as a shelter) you can look outside the window. When the song said "I see clearly who's behind the wall, yes, I can see us all" he was talking about those hiding their true selfs from the world. when the song says "The fire starts to die when you open up your eyes" the fire is refering to your passions. lets say you go to a school where most of the people that go there listens to rap, and you dont like rap and you prefer Rock. Well then your passion for Rock would start to die when you wake up in the morning because you want to fit in and like rap, so your true self takes "shelter" and hides while you act like you love rap. I think it is mainly about the Jewish people in a way. Because I recall in the bible something about a land of MILK AND HONEY, or the jewish promise land. They were enslaved countless times from the point they first became a civilization of nomads(I believe thats the right term). when the song said "they had rainbows in their eyes" that means they had hope. "Each day you hear the sand as it moves and whispers Come and sail on my golden sea Maybe one day you'll be just like me...and that's free" I believe that it means that it is tempting to run away and become a people of nomads, because the jewish people were nomads for years and years, and almost never had a home(until they got isreal...then got it stolen away from them, correct me if im wrong) But I could also be wrong, I think it might also have to do with what old rocker4ever said. |

Rainbow in the dark means that he could be a good person but because of problems in his life or his "demons" that are having a negitive effect on his life. basicly he is a good person but his problems are having a bad effect on him, making him look and feel a bad person. the magic refers to change, he wanted change but couldnt quite grasp it. "When I see lightning, you know it always brings me down because its free and I see that its me who's lost and never found" basicly means that he is not free, ofcourse because of the problems in his life. one person said that it could also mean that he is lost which I agree with as well. |

| well thats ignorent of you, demons almost always are refered to as things such as alcohol, drugs, smoking, people who are bad influences. What Ronnie is really saying is that he had some problems in his life or his "demons" or problems in his life that he feels that never let him go. Rainbow in the dark really refers to as something beautiful but covered in darkness. meaning that he could be a better person but he was covered in darkness, most likely drugs and alcohol, and wanted to be a better person. | |

His lyrics on all of his songs are metaphoric, and actually seem alot like poems that famous authors would write about and many of the meanings are very good and have moral values that I believe in myself like the meaning of the song "The Man who would be King." it basicly means dont blindly follow your leaders. Which would have been perfect for many things in todays modern world if people would have done. No affence I just think that you dont put enough thought or info into this. maybe this just aint your thing, ya know like how some people dont like good poems and others do. personaly i think that Ronnie was like the shakespear of metal with his lyrics. | |

I think I kinda agree with futrality and the guy that commented him (dioisthebeast)as of rather then the church its the mass. And Ronnie J. Dio has sang other songs about society, Rock N Roll is about how we should not let others tell us what to listen to and just stick to our music and nothing else. So yeah, its basicly telling us to do things our way. Although I dont compleatly agree with dioisthebeast or futrality I must say that they get the basic idea of the song. And the child with no sin I really believe is the ones in this world that are the good people, who choose the right thing and how they are looked down in society. For example I hate players, I dont want to be a player, and i want to kick any guys a** who i see playing a girl because that makes the s*** of the world and they have no respect, and i get looked down on for sticking with one girlfriend. I choose not to smoke weed, I get looked down on The good people are not really welcomed to much. in todays S*** society not even Jesus would be to welcomed into this world because good people who do good things are looked down upon wich im kinda relating to what they are saying. People today if they met him would probably say stuff like he is weak, a wimp and anything else you can think of that people might relate to people who stand out and do the right thing. |
